Greetings Everyone!

 

The other day I was on my network and noticed something strange.  A day later I thought NING may have been doing some sort of maintenance or something.  But today, the issue still exists.

 

As my network's Creator, I am unable to go on a User's page and leave a comment for them.  I can type my comment in the "Leave a Comment for UserName" box on their Comment Wall.  However, when I go and click the "Add Comment" button, nothing happens.  My mouse button clicks, but the button add comment button on the page has no action, and the comment never appears.

 

I've tried Firefox and IE to no avail.  I've tried to refresh the page, but nothing.  I've made sure that any possible ad blocking add-ons or apps are disabled.

 

As Network Creator, I welcome each new member to the Community with a Welcome message on their Comment Wall.  This is becoming quite frustrating.

 

Is anyone else having this issue?  Does anyone know if there is solution for this?

Below are screen captures of the two different comment boxes along with the different "Add Comment" buttons.  The Add Comment button on the Profile page, you can see that the text on the button is slightly greyed/blurred.  The Add Comment button on the Comment Wall Page is crisp and white and not blurred at all.  It's as if the Add Comment button on the Profile Pages is disabled or something.

This may soundstupid but are you logged in? just lately even when I have logged into a ning site, I find I am not, then when I do as you've said here all I get is a whirling thing, so I log in again and all is ok...

Yes, I'm logged in. I've also tried removing all cookies and cache/temp internet files for each browser, then I restarted the computer, but there was no change. Thanks

Ok, out of curiosity, I went and created a few new test accounts. I tried to use those accounts to leave a comment on my page and on each of the test account's profile pages.

These test accounts could not leave comments on anyone's profile page in the comment area. However, they could leave comments without any problems on their own page, respectably.

I'm not running any custom code and absolutely no CSS on my Network.

The ONLY thing that has changed regarding my network, is that on 07/27/2010 I chose to upgrade my network to the Ning Plus billing plan. I'm not sure if there is some background network migration script that's running on the Ning Server for Networks that have been upgraded to the new billing plans, but this is the only thing that has been done on the Administrative side of things. Anything else that was done was simply replying to a few forum posts.
Oh, by the way, my email notifications have also stopped for New Members. I've noticed at least 10 new members that I had no email alert or knowledge of them joining my Network.

I've checked my email settings on my account for my Network, and all possible boxes are checked except the last box, the "I don't want to receive emails from msspace.org"

Can you give this another try? I think some stale javascript was being served for your network, but it should be ok now. Please let me know if not.

Thank you for your reply. I've just gone into my network, and I am now able to able to comment on the Member's profile page again.

I sincerely appreciate you looking into this and resolving the issue.

Was this "stale javascript" on the Ning server end? Was it from the Upgrades? Is there a chance that this could happen again, if so how can it be prevented?

Hi Ian,

Yes and yes; when we push out code updates, we create new compressed versions of the javascript, and the version being sent out with your network's html either wasn't the latest, or had another problem that meant that certain functions (like commenting on member pages) weren't working correctly. There's really nothing that can be done to prevent the issue, but what you've experienced is quite rare and shouldn't happen again; thanks for your patience while we got to the bottom of it.

Before being disabled from Multiple Sclerosis, I was a System Engineer, so I know about the possible rare glitches that may occur.

I 've got the same problem into my ning network... no link on comment not able to add comment on wall... ?
I have been having the same problem as Ian Sullivan. I can comment to blogs, photos and videos, but not on other members pages - so I can't publicly welcome new members to the site - I have been sending private messages which is not ideal.
I too have bought the 'Plus' package but I noticed the problem I think just prior to that and like Ian I have wasted ages trying to find a remedy.

It doesn't seem to be as rare as you seem to think, Phil.

I have written to request help on this issue at least 4 times in the last 4 weeks without any response (except for the automated one to acknowledge receipt).
If Ning know what the problem is, I don't think that is good enough. Do you?
