Hi all

I have recently updated my network and have tidied up the url's to improve SEO and be more inline with user search web conventions eg -->  www.yournetwork.com/about etc...

What I have noticed since I have updated all my respective links to a cleaner url is a random line of code appears that appears at the end of every single page.  It's #.T9qlVrWMV8E. I have a screen grab below as an example:

This random end code is annoying and I'm concerned about its impact on SEO and my Analytics dashboard. I don't want to see each page looking like /community-guidelines (random numbers) as it could be confusing when looking in the dashboard to see most popular content and for reporting purposes too.

Has anyone else had this issue or knows how to fix it? I don't know where to start with fixing this. Any help would be great.

Thanks

Ben

I have the same thing going on, had it for months! I thought it was something new and normal for Ning. So you're saying this mess affects our SEO?

Hey, guys. I don't think this will affect your SEO in any way. These hash tags and numbers look like anchors to me. I don't think this is related to Ning, but I could be wrong about that.

I wonder if this is being added by some code on your network. Do you both use, Cloudflare, by chance? I wonder if that is how they track some things. Any code both of you might be using that might do this that you can think of?

Well I use CloudFlare, but for my [dot]biz domain, not my [dot]com (though both point to my Ning). Could swear it was there before I started using CF though.

Okay, I tested this out. When I remove all of the custom code, it doesn't generate the code at the end of the URL. When I replace the code, it comes back. So, I'm almost 100%  certain it's custom code and not Ning, and my hunch is still that it's Cloudflare.

Interesting. Thanks for your help, Eric. Now all I need is confirm that Ben and I share something in common, possibly CloudFlare.

It could be something new with Google Analytics for all I know. But, it does seem that you guys have to be using the same third-party service.

Thanks again, dude!

how can i improve SEO beyond what ning does, i am getting close to launch date, and would like to be able to handle this aspect myself instead of paying someone. i have read thru the help center articles, keywords and description set,all pages public,....this a new world to me and im learning as i go... now its search engines,lol.... can anyone offer me advice please?

You might want to start a new discussion, Richard, that is focused on that so it has more visibility. Maybe we can get you some good advice.

Hey Patrick

I don't use cloudflare.  The only bit of coding that I would think that may cause this owuld be from crazyegg. I'll remove it and see what happens.  I only ever had this issue once I converted over the the new design studio layout.  I have had the same exact js custom code in the old design and never had this issue.

Thanks for the feedback from everyone

Ben

Hmm. I've never even heard of crazyegg, much less use it. So we have the exact same issue, but nothing in common.

I think I'll file a help ticket for this one.

I've done that already. they have stated that it's one of the custom code snippets of js that owuld be causing this.  Crazy egg's really good - it gives oyu heat maps and a more visual appearance of your analytics for your website pages.  It's really good from a design point of view and a clear way to determine what call to action you want users to take on your site.

I've had a read up of cloudflare.  Does it do that much in terms of optimising your website though?
