Thanks for all your feedback regarding pagination. We have a new design that should address your primary concerns while maintaining speed across all Ning Networks.

Namely, this new design will call out the page number you are on, the total number of pages of content, and a Jump To page option. It will be implemented for all views of content other than comments on individual pieces of content. A mock of this is below:

Note, the final design could change from this but we wanted to show what we are working on!

The total page count will be approximate as we'll be optimizing that number with some caching. So, while there may actually be 203 pages of content, if the most recent number is cached at 202, that will display. Cache refreshes a couple times an hour.

This new design will be implemented this week and we'll post an update here as soon as we have a firm date and time for release.

Thank you!
Laura

Thanks for the response Evan.

Is the final update going to be what you showed us earlier? Please say yes. :-)

Hey Clark!

Yup, that's the plan. We need to roll this out slowly to ensure that adding this pagination throughout your Ning Networks doesn't place an inordinate amount of strain on our servers (obviously there will be increased strain).

FUBAR in my group as well, in the same manner...the cached page in one thread dates back to last August. Ning says the thread has 2 pages, but I know that thread has at least 30. "Next" will advance a page at a time, but "Last" only takes me to page 2. Sigh.

Here's hoping things look better by tomorrow...I hate to think of the member comments I'll be getting!

Also...I know the cache is supposed to refresh a couple of times an hour, but when the most recent posts are the first ones on a new page clicking "Last" frequently fails to reveal them, even as much as 13 hours later (the longest time frame I've personally verified). We have several game threads that build upon the most recent replies and we need to be able to access them reliably and easily. If you're in a thread reading forward the only way you can be sure you've read the most up-to-date post is to exit back to the Main Page and check Latest Activity, which is a major pain and pretty ridiculous too. This is truly FUBAR'ed as well.
Thanks for your patience Leela! We'll have this patched up in the AM.
I was just about to post a "It's working, yay!" comment when I noticed that Creators still has the old page layout...

THANK YOU for fixing the pagination!

Can we have our search function back now, please?
After Ning moved our network to a new server a week or so ago, our search was frakked as well. I submitted a ticket to Ning Help and it was fixed with a "quick back-end change" within 24 hours. Don't know if that will be the case for everyone, of course, but I hope so.
My forum's still got First / Previous / Next / Last (just like I'm seeing below) even though it was different earlier today. Hopefully the kinks are just being ironed out...
Hey Rick!

The fact that showed up on all Ning Networks (and was inaccurate at that) was a bug that we fixed today. We've rolled the new pagination out to just a very small number of Ning Networks so far, and we're going to be carefully measuring the impact to our databases over the weekend. Early next week, we'll look at the data we get back to see how soon we can roll this out to the entire platform.

Can you roll this out to my site please? I'm getting impaitient knowing that a better version is out there and I don't have it even though I have been one that has been pressing for improvement. I had to go to Knaldskalle's site (or at least one of his sites if he has more) to see what it looked like in it's final iteration. It looks great, but it stinks that it's not on my site. While you are at it roll it out to my wife's site too (doodlekisses.com). Her members are clamoring for it as well.

Thx
Clark
Ahem...no improved pagination yet on our site.

Hey guys,

As I said up above, we're rolling this out slowly throughout the platform, carefully monitoring the impact on our database as more Ning Networks get the new pagination. We hope to have it rolled out to entire platform by next week.

Thanks for your patience. I know you're eager to get your hands on the new pagination!

AH, I see...I didn't realize that "slowly" should be interpreted as it applies to glacial movement. Ha, ha. I'm trying to still maintain a sense of humor about this, but it's not really working.

Thanks, Evan, for replying quickly. I'm sure this can't be fun for you either.
