Hello
I have a Ning network for more than five years, with 6.000 members. It's a social network for department store workers, fighting for their rights in these difficult times.
It's very important for members the possibility to share files, videos, audio and other file types. But in my network that is impossible because ning doesn't allow to ning creators to work with iframes.
Ning presents itself as the world’s largest platform for creating social websites. To create groups with the same interests. But the creators can't create a complete 2.0/3.0 website without the possibility of embed content. The feature of attachments on blog post and discussions it's not adequate.
Since Ning abandoned the free plans, I'm paying 239€ a year for the service.
I think it's time to allow use of iframe. It is incredible that we can't embed youtube videos or PDF on discussions or blog post. If the problem is the security, you can work to allow selected and recognized services as PDF, youtube, google docs, sound cloud etc...
I don't want to have to move my site to another service, but this limitation is too restrictive.
Please consider this request,
Miguel

If you can provide me with an example URL for Google Docs and any other services or domains you'd like us to consider whitelisting, I'll be happy to pass your suggestions along.
Permalink Reply by Miguel on January 24, 2013 at 2:02am Thanks for the info. I'm trying again with youtube video on a new page and it's not showing the video:
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/DzxAlQPdi9U" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Example of code from slideshare not showing the embed file:
<iframe src="http://es.slideshare.net/slideshow/embed_code/16119639" width="475" height="506" frameborder="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" scrolling="no" style="border:1px solid #CCC;border-width:1px 1px 0;margin-bottom:5px" allowfullscreen webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen> </iframe> <div style="margin-bottom:5px"> <strong> <a href="http://es.slideshare.net/oscargaliza/octavilla-carrefour-16119639" title="Octavilla carrefour" target="_blank">Octavilla carrefour</a> </strong> from <strong><a href="http://es.slideshare.net/oscargaliza" target="_blank">oscargaliza</a></strong> </div>
And this is and example to insert google docs files:
<iframe src="https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B0tdnQUCAUtHOTVwbk9FQ25JV1E/preview" width="475" height="356"></iframe>

I think Miguel has provided it already but I really recommend whitelisting Google Docs. I second that nomination. They don't work in text boxes currently.

Permalink Reply by Doug Lowthian on January 24, 2013 at 9:42am I have had luck embedding Google Calendar in iFrame. It even auto-updates in the iFrame as it is changed on my Google page.
Permalink Reply by Allison Leahy on January 24, 2013 at 11:05am It is possible, Miguel. I've filed this request and will update you here as soon as I have more information or when Google Docs is supported as an iframe embed.
Permalink Reply by Miguel on February 20, 2013 at 9:59am Do you know when Google Docs iframe will be supported?
Thanks
Permalink Reply by Allison Leahy on February 20, 2013 at 12:06pm I don't know yet, Miguel, but I'll be sure to update you here when I have a better idea.
Permalink Reply by Andrew Sampson on March 11, 2013 at 4:40am Providing the ability to add Google Docs to a Ning site is something which should be offerred as soon as possible.
Google docs are becoming an indispensable option for many non profit organisations like ours who do not have the budgets for more expensive collaberation platforms.
Looking forward to when Ning releases this
Many thanks
Andrew
