If you're like me, you use your own domain name (www.dieselpunks.org) with the NING Pro plan to give your NING site a little more legitimacy on the web. You might have even gone so far as to set up email accounts at your new domain.
Did you know if you did this, you can't use the "Mobile Uploads" feature anymore?
Mobile uploads allow your members to upload photos and videos to the website directly from their phone by sending the content to a special email address set up by NING. You can find your mobile upload info at http://YOUR-NETWORK-NAME/profiles/settings/editProfileInfo
It looks like this:
Here's the bug
There's no good way to remove this feature, or this notice. The Language Editor does not include all of the text, and it does not have it's own ID or Class, so you cannot hide it with a CSS hack.
NING's solution is to shut off your email and point the MX record at their server > http://help.ning.com/cgi-bin/ning.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faq...
There has to be a way to do this
There has to be a better way to hide or disable this broken feature. Turning off my email isn't an option, and I'm sure I'm not the only one using my own domain for email.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Not sure where you were going with this thought. Can you clarify?
Permalink Reply by Tome Wilson on May 18, 2011 at 7:43pm Here's the thing. I have a PRO account.
But, in order to enable the Upload By Phone feature, I would need to turn off my email accounts and point all email traffic at NING's servers.
Since I need my email, I would like to hide the blurb that appears on all of my members' pages where it says "Mobile Uploads." It confuses my members, because they think they can use the feature, and it frustrates me, because I cannot remove it from the site I'm paying for.

We should have a checkbox to allow mobile uploads or not, selecting no should hide all signs of it. It's a PITA.

Permalink Reply by Speed Racer on May 19, 2011 at 1:56am if you look at the mobile uploader address under settings, if it doesn't say your ning address (yoursite.ning.com) it's not going to work. Mine got changed to my url i bought from GoDadddy, and as soon as that change happened and appeared as the mobile upload address, anyone who tried to use it, it did not work for. put this code in your custom code box and it should work fine. replace yoursite in the code with it's proper names.
I know this isnt as desireable as you may like, but, it will prevent a nonworking mobile upload address from showing on member settings pages. The way I'm understanding it, unless you want to purchase email services from your registrar (Go Daddy charges 2.99 a month PER EMAIL ACCOUNT), this is the only way.
<script type="text/javascript">if (typeof(x$) != 'undefined') {var oldHref = x$('#xg_profiles_settings_email_show').attr('href');if (oldHref) {var oldValue = x$('#xg_profiles_settings_email_show').html();var newValue = oldValue.replace('yoursite.com','yoursite.ning.com');x$('#xg_profiles_settings_email_show').html(newValue);var newHref = oldHref.replace('yoursite.com','yoursite.ning.com');x$('#xg_profiles_settings_email_show').attr('href',newHref);}}</script>

I have email for my domain. I'm currently using Google Apps, and it's been rock-solid.
