Earlier this month I held a VIDEO CONFERENCE using the Tokbox Video App. We had 6 friends show up for our video chat meeting. The problem was we could only have a total of 4 participate in the conference, but everyone could view it.
Then we saw the announcement that Tok will no longer be supported as of mid November.
Does anyone have a suggestion on what we can use for video conferencing here on NING? We want to use the conference video calls to have at least 1 meeting a month.
Ning would be better to make a partnership with Skype to insert the code modules in the network, but to ... I use skype conference with the name of my network.
I'm pretty sure Skype does allow integration with their API to large companies that are willing to pay for it.
Here's their Developer Page.
i know I was even told to look at video conferencing through google, but would rather have one that is connected onto the site. it is so much easier than having to get members to sign into the site than to just go to other places.
I use OpenTok and TinyChat on my site. Both of them work well, but OpenTok is more user friendly. I've had more than 6 people talking without problems when everyone uses a headset. Both of them are free and you can get as many rooms as you need.
We currently use the open tok, but got the following message
TokBox will stop supporting the Ning app as of mid-November. We longer have the resources available to the project. Thank you for choosing to use our OpenTok platform.
which is why we now are looking for other options. They do mention trying a plug and play app, but honestly I am unsure how I could get it into the site and have it on the menu bar. That is the one thing we liked about Tok is it was automatically done and I did not have to find a c omputer savvy friend to help me figure out the app. I know some things about computers, but am far from savvy with it.
I got mine directly from the OpenTok site. It isn't connected with Ning in anyway.
How do you get it inserted into your site? I know last night we went to have a virtual meeting and Open Tok did not work at all, so they have stopped it all together now.
You just copy and paste the code in a text box. You can put it on group pages or create a page just for the video voice chat. I created a special page for the video voice chat. Have 6 rooms for members to use. You can choose to put a button that will open the chat in a pop out window, or use the embed option.
I put 6 buttons on the page that I created so members can join different conversations.
Here is a TinyChatroom generator. It is a little more difficult to use, but some members prefer it. It has text chat as well as a whiteboard. You can also view YouTube videos on it.
I have had about a dozen people through facebook tell me to try google video voice and honestly it sounds great, but I am not the most computer savvy. Does anyone see or can explain to me how I could maybe add it to my NING site?
I really would appreciate any help with this.
You guys need to use Google Hang out. It's very good.
