Hi all
I have a longstanding issue which Ning have acknowledged but won't assign resources to sorting out (not their exact words but that is the gist).
When I embed videos from YouTube using the iFrame option then the thumbnail on the video page is the default Youtube logo thumbnail and in the activity feed it is the ugly Ning video thumbnail.
However, if I use the old embed code (flash) then the thumbnails are fine.
Here's what i mean
Like I say, Ning know it is an issue but have said there are not enough people bothered by it for them to resolve it. So I guess my question is:
Is anyone else experiencing this and are they bothered by it?
Cheers

Especially if you can't find a version with the old embed code as i don't like to upload videos without a thumbnail, people don't seem that interested in them. I'd love to fins out a way around this if anyone knows of one.

Thanks Jane, hopefully if we get enough people saying similar then they'll do something about it. The problem with the old embed code is that it won't play on iPads etc.

Development (or at least creators perception of it) has slowed to a crawl since melding with GLAM.
This is clearly an issue, very sloppy of Ning to say if its not bothering enough people it is not a priority. So much for standards.

well i guess they have to prioritise, i just want this to be a priority :-)

My current live network doesn't have a dedicated video feature. Members embed videos in blog and forum posts. However, I have started work on a 2nd network which offers that feature and I have recognize that issue. I thought it was isolated but should have known better.
It's an ugly look no doubt. I say we apply the pressure on Ning so they'll give this a harder look.
Enjoy the Weekend

All good thanks Troy, and thanks for the support on this!
Have a good one

It works fine for me. I tested it. This usually happens when Youtube video has been uploaded recently. And you just have to wait few hours or probably few minutes after the video is uploaded to youtube before embedding it.

Most of the videos with no decent thumbnail are years old so it's not that in my case.

Great post, I just thought I had to wait for the video to fully load or something like that but now I see it was another ning issue. Sometimes I just get the actual video image with no still image of the video from youtube! I agree with SP here.

Thanks Armani, appreciate the support. Let's at least get this in the weekly top 5 so i can mention it in my ticket :-)

Permalink Reply by Adrian Essex on November 9, 2012 at 10:06am I've just tried embedding a youtube video in a blog using iframe. The thumbnail was fine. Until today I still believed iframe would not work, and have been using the old embed code.
Does your problem manifest itself in blogs?
