I need feedback, the members/friends come but don't interact to test what they like or don't and no one is posting! So how before launch can I begin to ensure the site will be engaging! I am trying to find am I content driven or discussion driven or need a combination of both. If anyone can view and give me some good feedback on how to start on a good foot:) http://stronger-women.com, thank you in advance.

Permalink Reply by lorianne on November 17, 2012 at 7:28pm Hi Monica - i went ahead and joined so i could snoop around. I had the time and was curious because your site name is good. most here wont though, so maybe make it public just long enough to get some feedback.
My first though is that all of your active content is below the fold. so when a member lands there is nothing there to grab their interest. your blogs and group activity and latest activity modules are far down the page.
I like the soft colours and think your RSS feed widget has some interesting information highlighted in it... well directed at your target audience.
I would do a couple of things - i would get that active content higher on the page...blogs, forum, group..whatever. the stuff that changes as members participate.
personally i hate the huge "things you can do" boxes on the main page... but that might just be a 'me' thing. there are better ways to accomplish this. you can find lots of tips and tricks on this forum to help you use your cover space well.
The link "my brick wall" to my profile page was bit confusing ... i didnt know what to expect when i clicked it. the title made me feel like it was an inside joke i wasnt privy to.
i know many will disagree with me, but i dislike having members photos so front & center. its not like its a dating site. my members can look at who is who quite easily without my having to put the faces on the main page.
just think of your main page as your best foot forward. you need to have something right there when the page loads to grab their interest.
i have a network that is mainly writers and bloggers, so lots of text driven content.. i still always put some sort of changing media (image or video) on the page above the fold to grab folks attention.
you can see what i mean here: http://oursalon.ning.com/ keeping in mind my audience needs might be different.
I cannot emphasize enough how much help is available for personalizing your site right here on this forum. i have used lots of the tips and tweaks and they all made my site better. good luck!!
