Warning box when creating new page

When creating a new page I got the following warning box appear when pressing the "create":

Warning: that Custom URL will override an existing URL in your network.

Haven't seen it before and was wondering a bit what it means.

The new url I was making does not exist beforehand and the text field has the red text warning appear if you try to use existing url.

The URL for a custom page is defined by the title of that new page. Choosing to apply a custom URL will override this default page URL. There two things to be aware of here: 1) custom URLs are limited to 100 per network, and 2) changing the URL at the page level will not update any existing links (e.g., a tab, internal or external hyperlinks). 

I can see how this would be a bit confusing for someone creating an entirely new page, and will pass your observation along to our product team. Thanks, Paintball.fi, for sharing your perspective and keeping us on our toes!

Thanks for info. The text in the warning box might be a bit more clear, now it kinda gives the impression that some old page might be overwritten.

Was this warning included just lately? I have something like 70+ custom url pages and can't remember seeing it before.

Just checked in with my team here and it sounds like this particular warning is new--as you mentioned you were adding an entirely new page and the URL hadn't been used before. This pop-up typically shouldn't appear under these conditions. A bug has been filed for further investigation and removal. Thanks for the sharp eye!

From my experience: This box means that creating a new custom url will delete an old custom url from your network. E.g. if you create a page network.com/schedule2013 this will result in one of your old pages (selected randomly?) e.g. network.com/prices2011 changing name into a generic network.com/page/new-prices-august-2011

It does NOT mean the trivial fact that you are giving the page an address other than the generic one ning would have given.

Funny thing is that they don't seem to even know themselves what this box means or what damage the custom url restriction does to page structures.

Has it actually overwritten some of your older page urls? I get the warning box every time making a custom url, but it has not overwritten anything yet, got some 70+ custom urls.

If you have reached the 100 limit for custom urls, then I would expect it to overwrite. I would prefer for not being able to make a custom url at that point, so that I would have to manually select the url I want to go to default, but automatically doing it is one way to handle the whole limit.

There used to be an obstacle for making new urls, it said "you have reached the limit" and I was unable to make new ones before deleting old ones. Now I get this box and EVEN IF I do first delete some old custom urls it WILL override = change / overwrite older page urls.

This way I end up hearing from my customers that an url like "network.com/pricelist" does not exist anymore (and probably has been like that for a while). It will just randomly make them generic, and not correct links in tabs etc.

So, are you sure all your old urls still work? The only way to know is to check = type them in the browser.

That is bad, random defaulting url is actually the worst system now that I think about it, it just leads to lots of error pages, hopefully they fix it. I made a ticket about this earlier and it went forward as a bug.

I checked my custom urls (got most of them in links in one page, so pretty easy job) and they are still working, so despite the warning box, text it seems that the override will currently only happen when the 100 limit is reached.
