I've been waiting for points, ranks, and rewards to be integrated as a core Ning feature since you acquired Scripts4Ning... I'd love to have 4-5 different levels for members to aspire to based on activity in all areas, expertise on particular network topics, and seniority. The level badges would be customizable by network and would be displayed similar to your current Ning badges on profile photos. This solution would be great for all networks including Creators. Having ranks and the reward (badge) will drive people who are passionate about a network to want to contribute to attain this advanced status. This would be very useful as a general feature on all of our networks to encourage activity.

Hello Ken Carroll

i agree with you that "members that have converted invites into site" , dont you think that it could be missused by the members just for getting more and more ponts hmmm so that
he/she many gain more Reward points

Thanks

This is a great idea...One thing I would love to see is a revenue share application...This way, those member who contribute tremendously are able to be compensated base on productivity and content contribution...

Maybe a way for them to have their own ads show on their content 10% of the time or whatever is agreed on...Just an idea.

One option I'm currently working on is to compensate those who's content makes it to the homepage or front page... So, if you produce a well written, breaking news, or anything that would be enjoy by the community...If it gets featured, I will pay you $5 or $25...whatever is agreed on.

I may featured 5 content per day and one of them could be yours... Just ideas popping up...

Regards badge...maybe you can have these levels for members, you will be automatically promoted base on rating on your content and the levels of your activities on the site.

New members...newbie badge with the amount of points
coper badge with the amount of points.
silver badge with the amount of points.
gold badge with the amount of points.
platinum badge with the amount of points.
Titanium badge with the amount of points.
Then you promoted to Admin if you want.

The points will distinguish our level of ranking, meaning you can have two platinum member who ranks higher than each other base on points. So, no two titanium member will have the same ranking. Not because you reached titanium doest mean you slow down, someone can reached titanium and out ranked you by points.

You can also demoted and promoted at will by Admin or Creator...

One other thing I would like to see is suspension levels...If you upload porn, you get two weeks suspension which will reinstate you automatically....A month suspension for disruptive activities...

Also, from the day you join the network you will have a paper trail, something like a social security record...Once you reached a particular number of suspension or bad paper trail, you get banned permanently.
Hello Evan,

Any progress on that subject !
What do you guys think about letting the NC manually award points or badges to users at their discretion? This may augment or even replace an automated activity-based system and be more controlled/intentional/customized to the particular network (but a lot more time consuming). Is this something you would find useful?
I like that as an option in addition to the activity-based system. However, I think we need the automated system as well so that members can see exactly what they need to do to attain the next level.
It would be useful as long as we as the NC can define these points/badges/awards-- both in name and images. That way they could designate special labels that maybe can't be attained via an automated method (I'm thinking perhaps for recognition of outstanding bloggers/commenters/photographers/etc.)
I think it could be similar to the present thing in that you could upload meaningful images for each stage if you wanted to instead of relying on canned images. You could choose them based on your network theme. The whole gambit of s4n features was very important. I wish Ning would at least let NCs be able to buy into those scrips...
+1... All aspects need to be customizeable by the NC.

NimrodH,

This would need to be in addition to an automated system. The reason for this is that at the core those 2 accomplish different things. For example I would love the ability to manually add a badge to specific members. Our site sponsors would have custom badges, as would our STAFF and Official Photographers.

The automated system is an activity driver. Nothing to do with really identifying members as something special, they will always be moving forward in the ranks thus changing their status in the automated system.

Currently we add tags to our names which is pretty lame, but works. ( Desirée {PL} ) etc...

This would be great. I run a fraternal college alumni association and would like to add badges for financial contributors as well as manually award points for attending meetings, etc.
100% in aggreement here.

I can say with 100% certainty that our network would not be where it is today if it were not for the S4N Leaderboard.

To this day every single physical meetup we have, points come up as a discussion as people try to claw their way up. What does this mean for us? Traffic, Impressions, Return members.

Win for everyone.

I totally suport the ranks, an earning points idea!

In addition to this, in "Categories" section of our forums, next to Discussions list there are two columns, "Replies" an "Latest activities", and I'd like to see a third column that would display "Views", just like with photos and videos. Just because a discussion hasn't been replied to doesn't mean that it hasn't been read, probably more times than it has been replied to. So i think that this numbers would boost up our forum pages... The same is with blog posts...

For now, a member can estimate the interest for his blogs and discussions only through number of comments/replies, and this "views" counter would encourage activity.
