I'm not in any way, shape or form a computer engineer, (I freely admit that), but how hard could this be?
I've had TWO members abandon the groups they created. One threw a temper tantrum and left, and the other just quit maintaining her group, in essence abandoning it.
We've since gotten other members to take over and they're very enthusiastic! The problem is, they want THEIR name at the top: "Created by ..." NOT the person before them who is no longer there. Who cares about the original creator's name, especially if they didn't care enough about their own group to take care of it. Let us obliterate these people's names and "PROMOTE" the new member to "Group Creator"!!
Is this really hard to do?
***UPDATE
A suggestion came up in the thread about completely changing the language regarding group creation. Many think it's a good idea. (me included!!)
Change "Created by" to "Hosted by" and then give us the ability to promote people up to "Host" if the original host (creator) leaves.

See...this particular member who created this group, left our network and she did as much damage as she could before she left. She spammed people with her hateful comments and we all agree that we cannot STAND seeing her name attached to that group any longer. She left a bad taste in everyone's mouth and we have to look at her name up there every single time we enter the group. It's a very popular group, too! Almost 500 members and it's very active. It was because of her that I now moderate groups and create the ones that I think will be important ones. But that doesn't help me get rid of THIS particular creator's name...
Permalink Reply by Debby Bruck on January 13, 2012 at 12:24pm Dear Diane - Do you see the image example and how in RED it says must also change Avatar and name of group creator? I am in agreement with you. Had similar experience of group leader who left the network.
In fact, no one can create any groups on my network anymore, also. This way we, as creators can monitor and have control for when things go wrong.

Permalink Reply by Skye on January 9, 2012 at 9:14am I love this idea, on my end I try and keep my groups to about 100 as well. I have solved this issue by creating the groups myself, the individual who wants to run the group may at all times but if they decide to leave then I have no more issues. I have stopped the addition of groups only if a member has a good idea for a group and comes to me with it will I add it, why? Because we would have a thousand groups of the same thing and not run, so in my initial intro letter to each new member I state clearly that if they wish to add a group please feel free to ask me and I will look into it.
Problem solved.

Permalink Reply by Asil on January 11, 2012 at 11:43am Yes ...this is an issue, especially if the "creator" left badly. Being able to reassign the "ownership" of the group and give it a less thunderous title, like "host" instead of "creator" would be an excellent change.
