This feature would explode activity on my site, especially within our art threads, where a long, drawn out comment isn't expected, like with our fiction.  Being able to "Like" your favorite piece of artwork is super easy and quick, and would eliminate all the "Beautiful!!" and "Awesome work" kinds of comments we get in our art groups.

We also would need a way to manage our likes. As it is now, we cannot delete anything from our "My Likes" pages which is silly.  If you're going to have a page for your accumulation of likes to begin with, then you should provide a way to delete ones you don't want or need anymore.  What I liked three months ago may be ho-hum today.

And I know it's not on the Product Roadmap, but it would boost activity on a lot of networks, not just mine.

facebook isnt going to do it and I requested the dislike feature as soon as I created my network lol NING is trying to practice facebook tactics and thats why we dont have it but reality is on any site that everything DOES NOT  get liked lol its kinda cynical to just "like" everything but I called NING personally and they mentioned facebook  not having it and im like...DUHHHHH WERE NOT FACEBOOK! lol so its an ongoing battle but facebooks thing is controversy in "disliking" things...its gonna stir up more mess for them than they already have going on so I highly doubt they are planning to do it but hopefully ning adds it!

but there is already a 'like' button for photos/images, just that no place for managing likes - would be great idea 'MANAGING LIKES'

go to "my likes" on your profile page on your network..its a discrete hyperlink that takes you to all the things youve liked on your network....manage it from there

Yes, you can manage it from there, but it's a back and forth process.  You have to actually GO to the thing you liked and "unlike" it to remove it from your likes page.  PITA.

lol ah ha! Gotcha, overstood..

I'm not talking about liking photos/images. I know that we have that feature.  But in our art threads, artwork is posted as COMMENTS, so we need the ability to like their art via liking the comment.

lol funny how all the NC's have the same frustrations! my network requested this A LONG TIME AGO along with the ability to "dislike" certain content...too much like facebook to "like" everything lol

When it comes to music and art, I would prefer constructive feedback, or at the very lest some kind of expression of appreciation. Even taking the time to type "brilliant" would suffice. Could you imagine someone merely clicking "like" for a quote by Kant or Einstein, or a piece of art by Michelangelo or Goya?

But I do understand the need for these things in a disposable society obsessed with pop culture and quick fixes. The woman I am currently dating (though certainly not for long) considers Stephen King "classic literature", and had never heard of Nietzsche until I mentioned him. Yes, I do realize it's the internet we're talking about, and not the Guggenheim, so I agree that what you suggest may be helpful to our networks.

To be able to like a comment or disagree would be good.

Same here.

It would also be a great improvement if we could have likes and permalinks on comment walls as well. On our groups FrontPage members post a lot of content, it's quick and easy, but it gets lost fast and is virtually irretrievable.

Yes to like or dislike comments would be great!

Reddit is now surely the world's leading discussion forum, and the system of user-moderation through upvotes/downvotes is something that would definitely be a boon to the Ning forum area. The forum is by far the most-trafficked section of my network, and I wish it would be updated! It's starting to feel pretty dated, for me.
