A couple of things you should know:

Announcements from Ning - To keep the posting permissions intact for the Announcements from Ning Category, those discussions had to be moved to their own forum instance. Unfortunately, this means that you will need to Follow this new Forum in order to keep receiving those notifications. If you're using the RSS feed of this category, you'll need to update your feed reader to this link: http://creators.ning.com/announcements-from-ning/feed/all

There's a new profile question! - Go check your profile! We added a new space for you to tell us a little bit about your community. We understand that you may miss the text boxes on your profile, and we'll look at adding that when that feature is completed. Until then, please utilize this space to share information about your network if you'd like!

Comment Editing - We're going to try something out. You'll only be able to edit your comments for 15 minutes after posting (to fix typos, etc). We may revert to how it used to be (editing free-for-all), but let's see how this works out, hmm?

Bug Reports - We did our best to work out the bugs and double check all the links before flipping the switch, but we're human and I'm sure we missed a thing or two. Please share any weirdness or broken links you find in this thread and we'll look into them.

Let us know what you think! We're still refining and polishing off some parts of the Network. We'll have a full tour post tomorrow.

You need to be a member of Ning Creators Network to add comments!

    • Hi John,

I definitely understand that this is a hinderance. The engineering team is making good progress on the Activity Feed so you'll see that improvement sooner rather than later.

Great question about why we went with the 980 width theme... for the initial move, we choose to keep things as familiar as possible. We'll probably look at doing a redesign in a couple of months once everyone's become more comfortable with the change of platform.

We'll review the font sizes and see if we can improve that some.

        "sooner" meaning.... ?

I think it's gone well as an exercise in data migration. Impressed.

It must be difficult to design a site that 25,000 know-it-alls will comment on. Me included :-)
    I like it.

My only gripe is the presence of featured discussions above all discussions (even in detail pages) which makes it pretty tedious to scroll down to the meat of the chat.

    Other than that.....sweet.

    • Truth be told, I don't love that myself, either. It's good in theory, but I agree that, in practice, it creates an annoying, scrolling experience. It may be scrapped or moved below the forum detail module.

      Thanks, SP!

If Ning attributed more unique selectors to the body class then you could target this more effectively with css. :-) Check out the main Ning.com site (WP I believe ) to see this in action.

          John,

The point I was making was somewhat broader than the specifics of this example. By adding more class selectors to the body tag we can better target what appears on various sections of the site.

Here are the body classes of this page:

          "page-forum page-forum-topics page-forum-topics-welcome-to-creators-3-0-show" (just three)

Here are the body classes of the main forum page:
          "page-forum page-forum-topics" (just two)

I would expect to see more class selectors in the body tag on forum detail pages, e.g.

          "page-forum page-forum-topics page-forum-topics-detail page-forum-topics-welcome-to-creators-3-0-show"

This way we could target the discussion detail page.

Here is an example of body classes in a WordPress site I'm currently developing:

          "logged-in single single-post postid-3575 single-format-standard admin-bar custom-background group-blog header-image footer-widgets singular js customize-support"

Much easier to target sections of the site!

          SP
