Hi There,

Just me again!.... Well, this real jerk left my site- he shoulda been banned but NO I was niceynice instead! Well Yikes! This guy had his "fingerprint" on a lot of my content! and Poof! He is gone- Content is gone! I lost my entire 14 page Editorial Section!!!!He had designed the Header Tab page Graphics!

So that is my problem! I can locate some of it in I did recently-My Pages- but of course where ever he had graphics or Code- yup he was an admin-just looks like it is gone! So is all of that content really gone? Really???

WOW! what a bummer... Never ever trust cyber people- especially  moderators! If you have not looked that person in the eye---Learn from me! Oh boo hoo!!!

Well.... I trust you guys!

Thanks guys...

Hi Sweet Potato,

If there was anyone who could fix my problem I bet you could! And just to clarify for everyone in this thread- your new design for my website had absolutely nothing to do with this problem! You have been simply awesome, you have lots of patience and are so very helpful! I love my new site!

I know that the reason the pages are gone is because they were either designed by the ex member or had his graphics on the pages... I was just trying to find out if those pages could be found someplace! I do have some of the lost info in word docs- but unfortunately not all of it and of course it is all just plain text- but it is a beginning! I have just started to re-build the whole section! Yikes! 14 pages is a lot of content to loose! plus the other odds n ends info!

Thanks...

Thanks Suzie! Have you checked your temp Internet files so see if the pages are there? SP

So what do you all recommend if an admin did design some pages or themes and then leaves?  Can we back it up to prevent this happening?

I would suggest to everyone that if you have an admin (paid or not) you let them know that all content they create on the site as an admin (ie pages, graphics that are FOR or ABOUT the site rather than personal photos, blog posts about the site, etc) are considered property of your network, and you reserve all rights to them. In fact, I'd even go as far as to say, as soon as THEY post them, copy the content, post it under the site's creator profile (which I always recommend be a generic profile, mine is THT Admin), making sure to thank them public ally for their contribution, and delete their content. Or, just request they send all this information to you to post, or allow all admins access to an "admin" profile seperately from their account. As long as you notify them ahead of time, and explain why (should you ever leave, your vital contributions as admin of this site will remain), there should be no issues. Basically you would treat it as a "work for hire" contract, where all contributions made that fit their duties are property of the person who "hired" them. In fact, you could even have them sign a contract stating that.

Sorry for the huge paragraph... I'm in my phone.

Janettee,

Excellent idea! and I do have a handy account already for broadcasting member emails! Thanks really good info and I will do that from now on! Sad situation...

You're welcome! Happy to help:)

what type of information specifically should go in the admin account?

Hi,

I would suggest any pages that you wish to remain on your website- you design and ONLY You!

As a conservative political news website- my requirements might be different but I have also found that members seem to respond more often when an admin type account blasts out the "Broadcasts" of newsletters and/or "Share" in the forum and blog. So that should also be You!

Sorry to say I have two episodes where my own stupidity caused me a lot of problems! I have been the victim of members leaving to  build a "bigger, better, faster, stronger website and "rape" me of many good members with the visions of grandeur! That never materialize! most members come back but geeze... it is hell to go through being slandered by these freaks! I have collected over 300 Pages in a word doc of single spaced  bad mouthing me- and my attorney says nothing I can do!

See my big bad was that I also allowed those moderators -who left- access to the email addresses  of members to be able to communicate any infractions of rules or ban members. The reason for this access is that I have a very active Intense Debate Forum on my site. They need the addresses to access the ID members as there is no other way! and they are the worst type of trouble makes too boot!!LOL!!!  They must be a member of my site to access the Vent. at one time there were 600,000 members on the forum as it was on Glenn Becks 912 Project site- of course it has massively shrunk in the transfer....! I am nearly 4 yrs old now and I still have 1175 active members but growth is slow as well...

Please know that these folks- The Members-  are no different than any other walk of life- they are still only people and people will be people! There are good nice kind people and then there is the rest of them...

Good Luck,

Toodles...Suzie

You're going to have to clarify that question for me a bit, sorry:(

Can we restore all the contents such as blog, photo, discussion in group,...if we downloaded and stored it in our computer???

So Ning does not do back-ups ?

there was suggestion somewhere that they do do ?

here : http://creators.ning.com/forum/topics/does-ning-backup-my-network?c...

P.S. do you mean admin have removed it on purpose or content disappeared when he left ? this is new, i never heard about it

When a person deletes themselves all their content goes with them- admin or not... this jerk was an admin he was "helping" me! yeah right!
