Congratulations on Ning 3.0. I'm impressed with all the new features and functionalities. Job well done!

My only concern at this time is a BIG one! Why is't the platform fully compatible with tablets and phones? And more importantly. Why isn't there a plan to find a solution to this major issue? Compability with IPad/iphone should be essential. I don't know about other countries, but in Norway more people use ipad and iphones than traditional computers these days and a lot of people use iPad/iphone as their only device.

The forum and the blogs are useless without the functionality to upload photos and share active links etc.

I have tried to get Ning to answer this questions many many times, but no reply. Please share your thoughts on this important matter.

Again thank you for 3.0!

Best regards
Stig

    bump!

  • Following this!

    • Let's hope Ning will answer. They have avoided this question for a long long time.

      • Hi Stig,

Glad you're enjoying Ning 3.0! 3.0 was designed to be compatible with tablets from the ground up. That is, you don't need a dedicated mobile or tablet-optimized version that members would need to download for an iPad or other tablet-optimized version of your network.

However, what I think you're referring to is the WYSIWYG (text editor) toolbar not being compatible with some tablets. This is something we're looking into, since the version of the TinyMCE text editor we're currently using doesn't run correctly on some tablets. I don't have a timeline for when we'll be able to implement this, but it's definitely on our radar.

        • Hi Aaron!

Thank you for the answer. Much appreciated. You're correct! Not being able to use the editor that make it possible to add photos to blogs and forums make Ning useless on Ipad and Iphones. What you refer to as "some tablets" include the Apple devices that the majority use. Looking forward to a solutions as members are constantly asking about this.

          Thank you!

          Stig

        • Any progress on making iPad and iPhones compatible with Ning 3.0 ?

  • +1  Stig.

If we are all being asked to make a major headache-filled migration to an incomplete platform, then it really ought to work well with ipad/iphone.... like... DUH!    Um, wasn't that the reason for 3.0 in the first place, to be mobile-compatible and up to date?

Ning- It's ok to gaze at stuff 'on your radar' for a while, but if you take too long to take action, well... you go boom.

    • I know that Ning has many requests and have many things on their road map. I still think that this should be their #1 priority as the foundation to a product should be that the basics are functional. All the bells and whistles needs to come second.

Ning 3.0 is a major step ahead from 2.0 and it would be the #1 social platform if it were compatible with the devices that most people in the world use.

I believe in Ning and will give it a few more weeks. Thank you!

  • Any news on the progress of making Ning 3.0 compatible with tablets?

    • Nope.
