hi
does anyone have some code that can be put in a text box (or widget) that can display something like this
whos online
members 35
guests 42
total 77
maybe even also inclucing
newest member somename (linked to profile)

i think it would get more people to join if they can see just how active the site is and how many are online at a time.

most forums have something like this built in i just am not sure how to work the code for ning

any ideas?

so noone has a clue how to do this?
have you looked at the skysa bar?,they have a who online on their bar.skysa.com
That will only show which members are online in the IM
none of those are close to what im looking for
i want a script that tracks how many visitors are on the site and how many members are logged in something that looks like the attached screenshot off another forum (off ning)

I know what you mean. There used to be a company that offered a javascript for this. Unfortunately they went out of business or just don't offer it anymore. The only thing I could find is a javascript that merely shows the amount of users online. No further information available than that

thanks celina its not perfect but will do till something better comes along
You're welcome. These days these scripts are far more complicated with MySQL and such. When I come across something which is more what you're looking for I'll let you know
appreciate it im guessing it takes time to get accurate since its saying 6 or so not but theres 16 in chat and who knows how many guests
alot of my members stay on all day and several guests stay on for hours

you'd think it would be easy for ning to modify this just have this script interact with the login and subtract the members logged in from total to get the guests.
It is accurate on my network as I tested it before mentioning it here.
I put the code in a textbox. Don't know where you put it
i put it in the same text box my hit counter
my sites http://www.dreadlockssite.com
its bottom tight just above the badge
it now says 3 even though the chat says 17 so i think its only counting the ones logged in since i saved that text box last its gine up and down alot but isnt counting the people who been logged in hours so im assuming by tomorow it will be closer to accurate
It counts realtime who is actually on your network
So if someone is logged in but not on your page but somewhere else it won't count that person
so u mean actively browsing not just viewing or logged in to the site cause it still says theres way more logged into the chat then it shows ..
