Ok so I'm getting a little sick and tired of members who just do what they want and disregard rules. Do you just get rid of them or explain the rules to them. I have members that are very active but their postings are becoming more work for me because they do not post correctly, i.e. no credit of author, placed in wrong groups, bad upload and so on and so .... what do do, and why do people get weird when corrected? Are these not our sites we pay for and work hard at maintaining? People are f---ing rude!!!!

Permalink Reply by Patrick Chappelle on June 6, 2012 at 7:00pm I run a Metal site, and it's mostly no one knows what to do, how to post. They don't. Now the few that have posted, did so in the wrong place. I'm looking for professional bloggers in the industry, and when Ning has completed their renovation of Blogs, I'm hoping I can permit only assigned bloggers to use it. I've completely removed the forum.
If you do not show some control of these folks they will run you over! You have already been too lenient! You need to command some respect as the website owner! I have a three strikes rule- send them a copy of your rules- remind them once- then sorry charlie...Do you have rules in plain sight or where they have to agree to them???
Yes people are rude! very very rude! they would not do this stuff in real life- at least I hope not!
Good luck,
Toodles...

Permalink Reply by Skye on June 7, 2012 at 11:42am I guess it rather depends on how much control you want on your community, you have a great community (as I am on it) yet could it be too much control can work the opposite like a spoiled child who refused to adhere to the rules.
I guess it might be pick and choose your battles, you are more strict than I am, that might be okay for some and not for others. It is YOUR community, I look at my community like my home and guests of my home must be respectful yet they do have the ability to roam the rooms so to speak as adults without supervision. We do keep our eye out and have very little problem with over 1800 members, I rarely ban a member or correct them in any discussion unless things get out of hand.
I still think picking and choosing your battles is the only way to go, unfortunately but you honestly do a great job and its a wonderful community.
Permalink Reply by Darksky on June 7, 2012 at 3:28pm Thanks so much for the support. I dont want to be controlling but also want all the interaction I guess its a fine line we walk..............debate, varying opinion, different view points we welcome them.....but some over step their bounds........what cracks me up is how folks dont get it that its not their site.........we have an enormous amount of info and ask for nothing its free for members, we pay for the site and at times have to remind folks of this. I dont think they have a clue what it could cost for the info we provide.
