Hey folks, last few weeks were tough, weren't they ?

Now that the the D-Day is just a few hours away, how is everyone feeling ?
What is going inside your mind? Are you excited? or if there are goosebumps?
What do you think would be in store for us - Opportunities or disappointments ?

Here is what i feel -

Ning is a business, and they needed to take some tough decision. In these tough times they cant have a please all solution. So whatever they decide , will excite some, will disappoint some too, however whatever be the case - Life will go on ;-)

For you, For me,  For Ning,  lets raise the toast for the kind of opportunity they provided, for the lessons we learned, for the life after may 4th, for the new opportunity that may come across...
Cheers and Hope for the best !

I think we won't get a complete answer and a lot of people will be disappointed. In my experience, Ning have never ever laid out their full plan with complete details ever before, and I doubt it will happen this time.

If they do then change really is happening.
I am expecting, and hoping that we do not see another "we'll be rolling out more information soon". We need the entire new plan....everything upfront and center. We do not need mystery, announcements that are not complete, price news down the road, etc. We need everything in black and white on the day promised, which will leave NOTHING to be questioned.
Great post, agreed :)

After having to wait so long for any announcements, we, as NC`s, need to know ALL the info in one go. No "Wait, theres more" type announcements, so NC`s can decide there and then IF there are going to continue on the NING platform.
I am a bit disenchanted. I have 6 high school alumni sites. I am going to have to shut down 5 of them because I cannot afford to pay premium service for all 6 school. The largest school I have has over 7,300 members on it, so that one will stay. The others will go. It's a shame that they are not grandfathering those of us who hung in here over the 2+ years who built their sites and TRUSTED them to do the right thing. I feel cheated and my members on these sites will blame me for not keeping them. It's awful.
Don't jump in the pot just yet, there may be a small fee solution that will allow you to keep sites.

I have read where some NCs have already moved their sites or are in the process. Talk about panic. We don't even know the details yet.

If Ning don't provide a way for the free sites to stay by paying a small fee I will be surprised. They have millions of sites I believe. Just a 100,000 paying $1 a month is better than losing them completely.

You will know very soon, I hope:)
Just a 100,000 paying $1 a month is better than losing them completely.

not exactly if those 100.000 sites need 300.000 to run them :)

I wouldn't be surprised though if Ning offer some combined solution for free networks - some small fee + keeping Ning ads. But that's all guessing, it's tomorrow so it is just best to wait and see it.

PS. I am just afraid if Ning would come with pay per page views plan. That would probably be the end for me at Ning based on similar plans at other places and huge number of extremely bad monetized page views on my site.
Naturally, it goes without saying that it needs to be financially viable. But as I don't have information about their costings I am giving Ning the benefit of the doubt.

For example, as you mentioned, they could ask you to pay just $12 a year for the site and retain advertising, or some other package.

But my point is that I would expect they will try to offer a solution to retain as many of the free sites as possible, rather than lose the customers completely.

But then again, some of their other decisions are hard to understand so maybe they won't.

At least wait until you know what they are offering before abandoning ship.
I must be in an agreeing mood today :)

I would be happy to pay a small monthly/yearly fee and keep the google adds, they dont worry me at all. I like the ease of use of NING. Ive looked at other alternatives and dont like them.

I have one site of my own and am Co-Admin on another two. Id hate to have to leave due to excessive fees as I like the platform and am not too tech savvy !

BTW, its 1400 hrs AEDT here in Australia. Im sure I wont find out anything until Wed morn our time or if I stay up late tonite LOL.
I would rather the boat didn't ROCK quite so much. A little more level and straight for me:)
Those of us in doubt are just going by past deeds. I like Ning but I do have to admit at times I have wondered why they do not tell the whole story at once and stop the "roll outs".
I agree with you, and the others who have mentioned their frustration with Ning's "rollouts". It is true, however, that Ning has a lot of competition in the social networking arena. It's possible that they're trying to assure us that new and exciting things are on the horizon while keeping a lid on new developments as long as possible so that their competitors don't scoop them.
I am nervis, scared, exsied, hopefull. I have gone throw momints when I feel my network is safe and others when I feel it is in danger. It is in thes times I list off the names of the parints who have volinterd to help us get throw this. At this momint I feel safe but I'm shure at some point before I go to bed my hart will begin beeting fast and I will feel it's in danger... "What if the prise is to hiy?", "What if the parints on my list can't do it?", "What if it's not evein worth it?", "What if tomorow a humungist donut falls from the sky and distrows--" Ooookay I think that last one I don't need to worry about!!! XD

I think you are right Ning is a bisniss that dose have to make a hard desishun. But I fear for them that it was still the wrrong one. :\ Not just becoes I am nervis about this change but becoes when I was looking arownd at difrint platforms like Ning sefrol of them said they have alredy done this premin only thing. They found it was the worst misstake they had ever made. I hope for the best for Ning I really do. But I think they need to look at some of the other bisniss like them and lern from thare mistakes so they don't lern the same lesson the hard way.

I am hopeing to see the price be 5$ or lower a munth becoes I have a nonprofit network for teenagers and kids. :\ I would also be over joyed if I found out a creater could pay one price and make as minny networks as they want. Or at lest 3 or 4. :|
