youtube ends embed code use before ning fixes iframes thumbnail issues

for awhile now youtubes offered embed codes only as an "old style embed code" defaulting to the new iframes  code

but while either code embeds a  video only the embed codes work to have a thumbnail on ning

well today therre is no more option

only iframes

no more embed codes from youtube and now all youtube videos will have a default youtube thumbnail

this looks sloppy

i know nings working hard on huge projects now but this is long over due to be fixed and now its higher priority with no embed code options

design fairy u said they were there in a pale ghost script not sure what u mean but heres a ss can u show me i cant find em at all

lol-we just aren't communicating are we?? I see you have the embed code highlighted-that's all you need-you copy and paste...I just did several vids-no problem- every thing was as it should be

thats an iframe not embed code the iframes codes have in the past caused issues and at least that 1 is still on my site maybe it was fixed in general   so works for you now

but in the past whenbever iframe instead of embed was used the thumbnails never showed

and thats what im seeing now that embed is no longer an option

Thank you for having initiated the discussion Soaringeagle. This is a very old issue and it's really stupid to keep a bug so long.
To minimize the damage, I found the following trick: I gave explanations to members via the translation tool (my explanation was in french, here is an automatic translation):
But it does not really solve the issue, I quite agree ...

Hey soaringeagle,

The newer YouTube videos (as well as the older ones) with iframe embed codes still display the videos' thumbnails for me. If you're encountering otherwise on your network, please submit a ticket to us so that we can look into it further.

For the record, here are three expected scenarios in which YouTube won't display a thumbnail:

1. When your privacy settings dictate that your content be visible to only a select bunch of people, or if the video was just uploaded to YouTube.

2. If you right-click on a video in YouTube and select the "Copy embed html" option and paste that into your embed field on the network, you'll see a YouTube logo on your network (here's a screenshot of what I mean):

http://www.evernote.com/shard/s253/sh/174bd87d-bb2e-4cf2-a30c-f1491...

3. If you uncheck the "Show suggested videos..." option that appears beneath the embed code on YouTube, you'll see the YouTube logo on your network (here's a screenshot of the option that when unchecked will result in your seeing a YouTube logo for a thumbnail): http://www.evernote.com/shard/s253/sh/01aaccf8-ad9b-4e7d-b4ff-827db...

Beyond these scenarios, you will see a video's thumbnail display when you embed a video from YouTube. The best thing to do to ensure you get a thumbnail of your video when embedding it is to check for the above three things, and if you're all clear on all three, then click on the "Share" button that appears beneath a video, click on "Embed", and copy the iframe embed code that appears by default.

Monica

i tried it with and without the show suggested videos

the vid was only a few  days old bit had a million plus views

in the vid list i see the youtube logo but on main page ..this..nothing just text

Hi soaringeagle,

This is what you do. Go to a previously posted Youtube video on your site. Go to " Get Embed code and copy the HTML code. Paste the code in Word or NotePad. On the pasted code you will see a set of numbers followed by letters (e.g http://www.youtube.com/embed/1y6smkh6c-0?). Now go to the new Youtube video you want to post and copy the number and letter code and replace it on the code you pasted on Word or Notepad. Replace all number and letter code before the question mark. Copy the entire new code and and paste on your site. You should now be able to see the video without the Youtube thumbnail. Let me know how it goes.

im certain that will work thnx

but i cant expect all members to do that!  some still have trouble uploading pics after a year on the site

so nings gotta fix the thumbnail issue to make it work right with the new iframes code since that the only option youtubes offering now

Hi Monica - your screenshot links are broken.

In any case, this is what I get with the new YouTube policy:

I paste this:

And I get this:

The videos with correct thumbnails were pasted with the 'old' embed code, following a suggestion from Ning Support - I had filed a ticket when the <iframe> code stopped working a few weeks ago.

What will Ning Support now say about this new situation with YT?

exactly thats what i get too

Hi guys,

It would be best if you would submit tickets from your network's Support page so that we can work with you directly to see what's going on.

Thanks! (Also, thanks for the heads up about the links. Updated those, so they should work now.)

Hi, I see you unchecked the box next to "Show suggested videos...". That's one of the scenarios I noted above, in which you would see a YouTube logo. You have to have that box checked in order to get a video's actual thumbnail. Not sure why that is, but try checking that box, and see if that helps.
