Youtube video thumbnails

I am confused why some youtube videos on my site have the thumbnail from the video and others have youtube logos, please help?

Hi Eric,

This can happen if the api call to YouTube can't retrieve the thumbnail correctly, or if you add videos when your network is offline. Unfortunately there's no way at the moment to re-request or replace a thumbnail, but it's something we're looking at for down the track.

I noticed if you use the "Old Embed Code" option from the list when getting the embed code it gives you a thumbnail!

Exactly.  This is what I've noticed too.  If you just paste in the youtube link, you get thumbnails.  If you paste in the embed tags, you get the youtube logo.  I'm delighted to hear the old embed tags work.

My problem with the link option of uploading videos, is that I don't get to turn off "suggested videos" that appear at the end of the video--which is a major distraction for my network.

Using the old YouTube embed code works, but I cannot expect members to know this.

Thumbnails are so essential that I would like to request the option to upload images as thumbnails (the way Spruz does it), with admin privileges to do so on all (including other member’s) videos.

This approach can be cumbersome, but the generic icons is absolutely no incentive to watch videos, so thumbnails must be in place one way or another.

oddly, the thumbnails work just fine in Latest activity feed when sing the new embed tags, just not in the Ning video tool

This just started happening on my network... and the videos are getting virtually NO views. This is frustrating when trying to grow a network and encourage engagement.
