Many Network Creators and members have written to us recently through the Help Center and here on Creators reporting issues related to Search. I head up Ning’s Search team, one of the Agile Teams here at Ning, and we’re currently working hard to improve the search experience across the Ning Platform.

Right now, the Search team is developing a platform-wide Ning Network search in parallel with our ongoing efforts to improve in-network search. We’ve been working on both of these projects for some time now. Just last week, we made some major changes to in-network search, including hardware upgrades, that should ensure current and steady results. We’ve also heard a lot of feedback from Network Creators and members requesting that we bring back search for Ning Networks, and we want to make it better than ever! We have a release planned for this updated feature sometime in late March.

We appreciate your patience as we continue our efforts to revamp search. In the meantime, if you have any search-related questions or concerns about your individual Ning Network, we can help you through the Help Center. As always, our Advocacy Team is happy to help! They work closely with us in Search to make sure we stay on top of pressing issues and keep us posted with feedback received on Creators and through the Help Center.

Stay tuned for further updates on Search!

Thanks!
Brent

Would it be possible to have an option to turn the Ning search off (and have the search field removed) if we decide to incorporate a Google search box in the right column as Ning has done here on Creators?

Yes I think it is important to make it easier to have the choice between using Google Search for all search fields or Ning search. If we were using Google Search I would like a way to remove all the search fields except for the one at the top. Some people might prefer it on the right column.

I think it will very easier if you Ning search guys just allow us to use Google´s Coop instead of your search. For us that pay will also be a new revenue stream!

It cant´t be so hard to give us a way to choose, an option, after all for those who don´t know what it its or choose to not change will be ever possible to go using that "old erronic Ning search"!

"Creators and members requesting that we bring back search for Ning Networks" -- This should read "Spammers are requesting that we bring back search for Ning Networks".

Seriously, don't go back to the days of the spammers working their way through your easily browsable database of sites joining and spamming them all. Those days sucked for the creators of large sites. Dozens of spammers joining daily. I would be happy to never see spammers be able to easily find all the Ning sites ever again. As for real people that are interested in the topic of my site? Google will get them there quite nicely.

Please concentrate all your time on making search work within each network. THAT will be helpful. :-)

I would really be happy to get the search function to work inside my network-I cannot find ANYTHING in it! However I really would like to be able to search for networks ON Ning... I hate having to go to google. It's obvious that taking Ning search down didn't stop spammers, so why make us suffer?

@Janettee

No search on Ning.com DID eliminate over 90% of spammers on the two sites I deal with (5k+ and 10k+ members). So removing that "feature" was VERY good for Network Creators. It should never come back. Nings role is not to be a directory of sites. It is to provide the platform for networks. It is NOT to be a directory of our sites or to make it easy for spammers.

If you "suffer" because you can't find Ning sites and "hate having to go to google" to find site you are interested in... you lead a pretty posh life. Can I peel you a grape? ;-)

Check out Jen's site for Ning sites that want to be found by other Ningers.
