Chat Feature Update on Ning 3.0 is ready!

Good news - it`s time to announce the release of the Chat Feature on Ning 3.0 platform.

Today we are happy to provide you with the opportunity to chat with other members of your Ning Network in the most convenient and efficient way. To facilitate your community management experience, we have added several new options:

  • New design
  • Customizable notifications
  • Message counter
  • Ability to create and manage groups (rename, add photos, delete and add users, block users)
  • Ability to send files

Chats 3.0 is an easy-to-use tool for building an effective network. With this release, you can customize notifications in accordance with your needs, rename your groups, add photos and users, use a message counter to monitor the number of messages, delete the messages you don’t need, send files, and suspend members from chat. The Chat Feature is available for both Ning 3.0 and 2.0 platforms.

We have a lot of ideas and plans, so please stay tuned for our updates and share your opinion with us!

          • fwiw We are still having to refresh on my network.  Help tickets are useless when I'm told

            Bugs are issued a priority based on the severity of the issue, the number of affected networks, the complexity of the issue, engineering resources available and if there are any workarounds until there is a fix.  We are currently working to fix it.

            No, they're not working on it.  It's been broken since it was implemented June 21st.  This is almost August.  This is just wrong.  The old one should just be put back until you get your coding straight.

      I'm sorry to hear that. The report has been updated with the details of your network and I have notified QA teamabout it.

      They would run several tests to find out what is the source of the issue and I hope it will be fixed shortly.

  • The chat is nice, but we have a seriousproblem. When we make groupal chats we can.t read the conversation because the chat box is very little.

    Weeks ago it was possible to open it in a pop up window. But now it is not possible, so it is very uncomfortable to chat, because its impossible to read all the things that the people write. 

    Are you going to solve this problem, or the chat is going to have a little box for ever? I would want to know it because if you dont allow us to chat in a bigger space I will have to put another chat,

    my pupils and I were very happy at the beginnig, but with the changes you made, chating is very, very difficult

      I have added your comment and vote to the suggestion to add the pop-out option to the chat, unfortunately, the management hasn't given me the reply regarding the implementation of this suggestion on live networks but when the final decision would be made i\ll inform you.

      Meanwhile, there are several ways around that you can use to make your chat window bigger. Both of them has been posted in the comments to this discussion https://creators.ning.com/forum/topics/changing-your-chat-bar-colours. As I see you have seen one of them already so I'm posting the link here to make sure that the others would be able to find those solutions as well.

  • They emailed me saying it was fixed.  Wanna bet?  This is from this morning.  We continue to get 'hung up' and have to hard refresh in order to post.  The wait goes on...............

      Sorry for that, during the last test as I see it seems that everything was working fine.

      Anyway, as I see one of our support agents has already checked the reply on the ticket you have made and reopened the report that has been posted before and updated it with info that you have sent to us, so the developers would take a look and I hope finally they would be able to find the reason why it's happening.

      • Kyryl I forgot to mention that we still have no 'notification' when posting in either Chrome or Firefox.  Sounds silly but we're so accustomed to it - you miss it when it's gone.  Just fwiw
