Ning 2Q 2017 plan!

Most of you have asked us about Product plan for the nearest future. And here it is!

For the last couple of months we’ve been listening to you very carefully, gathering and analyzing all your feedbacks to make Ning platform a better place for you and your members.

So here is the list of functions we are going to release in Q2.

1) Making Ning 3.0 as functional as Ning 2.0:
- Paid Access. Probably the most expected feature that will be much better and way more functional than the previous version.
- Chats. Basically, they are live now, but in Q2 this option will be upgraded to the next level.
- Audio. The basic feature with basic performance.

2) Completely new features:
- Polls. You will be able to ask different questions, receive immediate feedback from your customers and make research you need in order to evolve your platform.
- Member ranking system. To encourage, motivate and engage your members, as well as develop your community.

3) Some upgrades are coming for both platforms:
- Disk usage is going to be visible for all creators to manage your space and resources.
- Broadcast messages will become more functional, with a bunch of new settings for you and your members.

4) Our brand new redesigns are also coming to push Ning to a new era not only functionally, but visually as well:
- Ning.com redesign is live now and you can check it out on https://www.ning.com/
- Creators.ning.com and Ning corporate blog will try out new outfits this quarter too.

5) New migration script. Those who would like to migrate from Ning 2.0 to Ning 3.0 to use more benefits would be able to do that easily.

6) System monitoring. 99,9% of uptime monitoring is now done, which gives us the opportunity to keep everything under control, and provide you with better and better service.

7) Hardware renovation plan, that our tech team is currently working on, is going to be ready by the end of Q2.

If you have any ideas on how to improve our service and you are willing to share your thoughts don't hesitate to email us at support@ning.com

  • Looking forward to seeing Ning 3.0 step up its game. After all these years it may finally be a viable option to consider moving off our present 2.0 platform (sooooo glad we never made the move given the lack concern demonstrated by the previous management team and its "support" group).

Another VERY important function that I've been asking about for a long time, never even made available on 2.0, is the ability to "clean house" of membership rolls to remove/delete inactive accounts without having to scroll profile by profile one at a time. Believe me when I say what a difficult thing this is, having manually deleted over 15,000 accounts in the past year to maintain below the 100k level for our pricing plan.

Our site at http://rhettandlinkommunity.com presently has over 98,000 members built up over the 8+ year life of the site, although I would estimate only 25%-30% of those have had any activity more than a day or two beyond the date they joined up months or even years ago.

I can easily identify those by sorting through an Excel spreadsheet version of the member database export, but there is no way to clear out dead accounts in bulk. Now that we've got your ear on issues and concerns, PLEASE HELP!!!

    • Hi Kevin,

Thanks for reminding us about your suggestion to add such functionality.

I do remember you have already suggested changing the member's removal feature that way so there will be the possibility t remove inactive members in a convenient way. Then I have checked the records and as I see the management haven't reviewed it closely yet.

However, when they would take a look I'll send you the message (probably it will be the email or the private message here on creators, depends on what is the most convenient way for you to receive such information) with their decision.

      Regards,

      Ning Team

  • I wrote to Brice but I'll reiterate here.

I'd like to see a members' directory.

Our members provide professional services to fee paying clients and I'd like potential clients to be able to do a postcode (Zip) search and extract info of professionals near to them.

      Something like this Phillip?

Clean, Robust, Filterable Community Member Directory

Clean, Robust, Filterable Community Member Directory
You can make a really nice member directory from your exported Members Data, but it requires quite a few steps. Mostly because(If you've worked with…
      • Agh, yes. I do remember you posting this.

I think I was a little put off at the time because the of the instability of the ability to suck out member data.

        I'll send you a pm.

    • Hi there,

I have added your suggestion to add the ability to search by the zip code to the report that has been previously created when I would receive the reply from our management I'll let you know.

Thanks for helping us with your ideas, it's highly appreciated.

      Ning Team.

Truly exciting news for the future! Please consider adding "Search" to the development plans. It is very important, especially for private sites.

The new design for ning.com, rocks! I AM disappointed that you have removed the link for "Approved Solution Providers". If it's there and I just missed it, my apologies.  A lot of us have worked for years, designing and developing on the Ning platform, gaining trust with Ning and their customers. When Ning offers links to our respective Design/Development Firms, it's a real help to us and your customers.

    Great work, thanks!

    Jen

    • Hi Jen,

      Thanks for the question.

"Approved Solution Providers" page would be returned when all contact information would be actualized and updated.

      Sorry for temporary inconveniences.

      Best regards,

      Ning Team.
