Ning Partners with Noosphere

Noosphere is happy to announce that it recently coordinated the successful acquisition of Ning Inc assets.  Under the terms of the acquisition PSCP Holdings Limited acquired the business and will operate it under the newly formed entity Ning Interactive Inc.  The Ning brand is an important member of their social discovery division's portfolio of technology assets, and the experienced management of the division will oversee the transition to Ning Interactive Inc.

We are excited about the acquisition and expect to invest in our team, infrastructure, and system upgrades and are committed to improving the overall customer experience.  While the deal was being hammered out behind closed doors, our team here has been working to prioritize a few things we’ll be working on in the immediate future.

  • Price Increase Rollback.  We’re putting all plans to discontinue the Ning Mini and raise Ning Plus and Pro prices on hold for the time being.  Our first and foremost priority is to get back to work improving the platform with results you can see before doing anything about raising your prices.  More information about this update can be found here.
  • Inconsistent Uptime.  Our Status Blog has been getting more of a workout than any of us like these days, and we know our uptime hasn’t been as consistent as it once was.  One of our most important goals is to work to limit downtime and improve uptime.
  • Bug Fixes.  Turnaround time on bug fixes has also slowed in the past few years.  We’ll be working to improve this and have started tracking some of the more visible bugs and their fixes on our Known & Recently Resolved Issues page.
  • New Features.  We know there are a number of features you’ve requested, and we’ve started work on smaller improvements and planning for new features.  You can find more information about our first new release here.

We’re fully aware of the recent network availability issues plaguing some of you and your members and have already begun the infrastructure improvements to resolve this.  We’ll share more information about our upcoming plans and improvements here on Creators under Announcements from Ning, so please stay tuned!

      • My network has the same problem. I'm running a Ning 3 network with less than 1000 members. Hardly any content gets posted directly on the server, given that most of our content is being pulled in via YouTube and other sources. Members occasionally post in the forums and we occasionally post team blogs etc. but no pictures or anything like that. Yet, my dashboard says I'm now at 90 percent usage of 10 GB... which I deem impossible. Letters in blogs don't take up that much space. I got in touch by opening a ticket regarding this issue, to which I received two responses - automated ones - and when I got back to them about the fact that the responses felt automated they just sent another message and closed the ticket! In that message, they told me I need to email them via the email address with which I signed up with Ning "for safety reasons" ... I replied and said that was ridiculous given that I am in my ticket system on my own dashboard!! I mean, seriously? In the end, I did email them with the correct email address... that's now a week ago and I did not even receive a reception confirmation. I had high hopes with the switch in management... but unfortunately they are starting to get crushed as it just seems business as usual at Ning, or rather, lack thereof! Please Ning, you have a new team and an opportunity to make things right! Get it done! You owe it to us, creators, who have been with you for years, in my case since 2007! Without any communication about this, it just feels that you are artificially pushing everyone's percentages up just to force us into a higher level of your payment plans!!

        • I wrote the message above about 20 minutes ago and just received a response on my ticket. I'm sharing it here in case you are faced with the same issue I was:

"Currently, we are not strictly enforcing limits around storage and bandwidth usage on your network. For the time being, don't worry about your storage usage on Ning. If and when anything changes, we'll be sure to reach out to you directly and let you know as well as discuss your options at this time. When nearing of exceeding storage, you can archive network contents manually in order to make free space. If you have not received an email from us regarding your network's member count or storage, then it won't be affecting your network at this time."

          Glad to hear this!

          • Me too!  Thank you Kwan.  I can breath easy now.  I not think with platform 2 we can archive.  It has rather limited features.  But it has everything we need, so I prefer to stay on platform 2.  Thanks again for sharing your information.

            • I'm lost again in the kafkaesque world that is Ning...!

After the update I received from Ning, which I copied and pasted above, I decided to ask one more question for clarity reasons. The question was:

"Does this mean that my monthly payment won’t go higher if my network goes over 10GB?"

              Their answer just came in:

"You'll get notified if network crosses allocated space or member limit. Once you do receive email notification about exceeding storage/member limit, we will suggest further plans to upgrade your account."

So... if I am reading this correctly (and please tell me if I'm not) then what the same person at Ning wrote to me yesterday DOESN'T stand... which means, basically, that the problem of storage going up without us adding content continues to happen and WILL lead to a higher payment plan once it goes over 10GB!!

              I'm baffled.

              • Just be prepared to pay more.
      • idk if it will make a difference but have you cleared your browsers cache during that time to be certain you're receiving fresh data?  Worth a shot?  idk

I have no idea what's going on behind the curtain at Ning but my guess is they had (basically) a clerk answering phones, who would pass on "tickets" to his/her Manager.  Important ones were passed on to for I.T. and that's **IF** they had to spend the money.  My guess is everything else was left in an enormous pile for the "buyer".  They weren't going to spend money on a platform they weren't keeping.

        • I can see it go up as others add pictures.  I just can not remove stuff to make it go down.  So, I an not seeing a cached page.  But, that was a good idea to check.  If they leave billing alone till it is resolved, I am happy.  Just not want any surprises on my charge.

    • My members cannot post content. They do not respond to us either.
    • Cindy it's not just you.  I've had my site since 2011 and I've been sending help tickets since October 5th when many of our features stopped working.  I don't even get any real responses to them aside from the auto-reply that says I should have a response with 48 hours.

      @Rowald and @Ning,

Agree, and so true...couple minutes a day, even every few days would be nice. =) The absolute best move the new caretakers could take, is to rebuild trust and confidence in the platform, via good communication.
