Dear Santa,

I know I haven't been the nicest person this year, but you know I'm trying, and I've not deserved the coal for sure. You know everything anyway and there is no need to convince you :-)

This year I won't be asking for myself, I guess I have pretty much everything I need, could you please be so kind and help us release Member Ranking System on Christmas for our lovely creators, I'm sure they deserved it.

Please, please, please...

Sincerely yours,

Kyryl

Ho-Ho-Ho Kyryl,

You are right you could have behaved better this year and barely escaped being on the Naughty list. However, you are right network creators don't deserve a coal this year, I still think that it's also a valuable source of energy but for some reason, naughty people think that I don't like them and that's why they are receiving a coal but anyway.

*magic sound*

Member Ranking System is released! I have decided to place it on the Members Management page, but I think Ning Team will be able to change its location if necessary. There, creators can choose how much points network member would receive for each activity and for the time they have been on the network. Based on earned points some achievements could be provided to the member, but I have decided to let network creators decide how much points should be earned and what would be the icon of the achievement. Gosh, I thought I would never finish drawing those icons, have had to take some courses for this purpose, it's much easier to paint wooden horses you know, but it worth all the efforts.

Also, I've made it possible to place Achievements module on the profile page of the member, so everybody could see how cool some members are, and of course which achievements still could be earned. In addition, the Leaderboards module has become available, and I guess you already know what would be shown there, don't you :-)

And of course, I envisaged some members could impress you that much, so you decide to reward them with something unique that's why in the settings of MRS you can give personal achievements to members.

I have still left some work for your team to finish, so don't be lazy and keep working.

Merry Christmas, to all network creators.

  • is it also for ning 2?

    • Hi there!

Member ranking system has been released on 3.0 platform only as an alternative to the leaderboards from 2.0 with some additional functionalities added which are not presented on 2.0.

      Best wishes,

      Ning Team.

  • hello Kyryl ... Merry Christmas ... the acomulated points are not visible ... you can not know the number of points ... of each member ... because the scores do not come out ... thanks, this can motivate you to see how it's done ... greetings happy holidays ♧ ♡ ♤
    • Hi Manuel,

The Achievement module that you can place on the profile page can show the number of earned points of each member. Please check the screenshot.

      3240234?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024

Hope this what you are looking for :-)

Have a Merry Christmas and the Happy new year!

      Ning Team.

      • First, thank you for working toward these much-requested improvements.  Appreciated.

Next, I'll ask what may well be a dumb question, but I'll post it in case I'm not the only one with the same question.

        I see:

        3240269?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024

I don't see "Achievements" (did find Leaderboard and did add this and love having this option).

Under leaderboard, I find these options:

        3240287?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024

Is there any chance of an option to exclude admins' stats from the display (my member profile will always be '#1' unless there is a way to remove me from the leaderboard stats {we could do this in 2.0} and I would rather show other members as leaders of activity, discounting my monopoly of posts.  [Though I would not mind having my points showing on my profile page.]

Also, is there any chance of having this be retroactive?

How often are the points updated?

I have these settings at present:

        3240310?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024

I assume 'new post' means new blog post?

I'm not sure I have things set up properly yet, but am excited to be implementing this feature.  Thank you again.

        One more question!

        On the badges:

        3240330?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024

If I activate the one I edited (contest) and any others, will the grayed-out badges always appear as visible on each member's view of their individual profile pages?  [I have the 'Personal' box checked now (until I understand the system better and have more ideas on how / if to use it), but when I unchecked the 'Personal' box, and then checked my test member site, this is what I saw:

        3240335?profile=RESIZE_480x480

Seeing grayed-out badges will definitely be confusing to members of my English-language-learning site.  I'm not sure I will use them.

If I could display ONLY the colorful badges the communication would be clear.  Otherwise, I'm guessing that many members of 7H would be confused and thinking they had earned a badge/badges.

I hope other site owners/managers will share how they are implementing and communicating to their members about these new options.

        Enough for now,  :-)

        Holly

        • Hi there!

The "Achievements" could be found on the profile page only, as this module is related to each member separately. By the way, I can see in your last screenshot in your case it's called I guess (7H points).

Regarding the members removal option from the leaderboards, the suggestion has been posted just a few days ago, I would add your vote there and if there would be info from management you will hear from me.

I assume 'new post' means new blog post?

          Yes, that's right.

Also, is there any chance of having this be retroactive?

I'm not quite sure what do you mean.

How often are the points updated?

There is a bug when the system updating the info for too long, so I cannot tell for sure, but according to the tests on teh specific profiles, the updates are made immediately once the user earned the points.

Regarding the badges, the greyed sign means that the achievement could be earned by the member, and as I know such approach is used almost everywhere and almost a standard so I hope there would be no issues. Personal and public achievements, when you are creating personal achievements there is a tick box to make the achievement personal, in such case, it could be assigned to the member only manually, the public ones always have the number of points needed to receive the achievement, and you just choose which would be displayed.

          Best wishes,

          Ning Team

P.S. If you sure that members shouldn't see the achievements they can earn, this code would remove the greyed badges from teh list

          .mrs-disabled { displaynone;}
Just copy and paste it into the custom code in the design studio, after all the text you have there.

          • Thank you for the code!

I hope other site creators will share brainstorming ideas of how we might use these badges... what are you assigning them to?

            • point total milestones?
            • contest winners?
            • voted most helpful?
            • most improved? / showing strong improvement?

            Thanks again.

It's fun working with these new options,

            Holly

            • Hi Holly!

Personally, I think achievements are a pretty cool thing. I've been the member of one site in the past which has been using the sort of badges (they called them "medals") which could have been earn for lost of the activities on the site. The main idea of them was that they were just funny badges on the profile of the member, and sometimes a bit offensive but the members of the site haven't been thinking about them in such way, well most of them.

As usual, they have been given manually by the administration for the certain deeds of the members. So let's imagine you have created the post related to the sheep, and after that, you could receive the medal called "herdsman" that's been created especially for you and because of the post you have made. This approach made me think that my medals are pretty unique and not easy to earn.

That's the experience I had with the badges/achievements etc.

By the way, Holy, I think this question deserves to be the separate discussion :-) I'll tell you more, it would be even featured, at least I think it's a pretty good thing to discuss and to hear the opinion of the other NCs.

              Best wishes,

              Ning Team.
