Current status of the Ning Platform is always available on the Ning Status Blog.

Update:  This has been rolled back.  We will not be proceeding with the price increases to Ning Plus and Pro or discontinuing grandfathered Ning Mini subscriptions at this time.  More information on this can be found here.

As a continuation of the adjustments to our offered plans we began at the start of this year, we’re making the following changes to the plans offered for Ning 2.0, effective October 1, 2016:

  1. Retiring the Ning Mini plan.  We discontinued new Mini subscriptions in October 2012.  After keeping your Mini subscription and rates the same for nearly 4 years, we are now discontinuing all existing Ning Mini subscriptions.  Mini Network Creators will have the choice of upgrading to the Ning Plus or Ning Pro plans or canceling their network. Mini networks we don’t receive a response from prior to October 1st will be canceled and locked at the end of their current bill cycle.
  2. Increasing Ning Plus and Pro prices.  After five years, we are now raising our rates for both the Ning Plus and Pro plans, which have remained the same since July 2011.  Plus Network Creators will be able opt into the new Plus rates or cancel.  Pro Network Creators will be able to downgrade to Plus, opt into the new Pro rates, or cancel.  Plus and Pro networks we don’t receive a response from prior to October 1st will renew at the new rates, beginning their first bill cycle after October 1st, and will continue to renew until we receive a formal request for cancellation via phone or email.

In addition to the notification emails that went out today, we’ll be reaching out again shortly in subsequent email reminders with customized links that will allow you to accept this price increase or cancel your current plan.  In the meantime, please take a look at the FAQs below.  They should answer any questions you have about this, but we’ll do our best to clarify if they don’t.

How do I find out when my subscription renews?

You can find out what your bill cycle date is and when your subscription renews by logging into your Ning.com account, clicking the "See Billing & Invoice History" link, and viewing your invoices.

I’m on Ning 3.0, will my subscription fee go up, too?

No, we do not have plans to raise Ning 3.0 prices at this time.

My Ning Plus/Pro – Annual subscription just renewed in July.  When will I see the new rates?

Your current subscription and its rates are valid through the end of your current bill cycle, through July 2017.  You will only see the new rates once your subscription renews next summer.

My Ning Plus/Pro – Monthly subscription is set to renew September 20th.  When will I see the new rates?

Your subscription and its rates will be valid through the end of that bill cycle, through October 20th.  You will see the new rates once your October invoice posts.

What about add-on pricing?

There is not any change to add-on pricing or plans to change add-on pricing or subscriptions at this time.

I don’t want to continue my network.  How do I get my content?

You can archive your network's content with the Ning Network Archiver.  Head to My Network > Content > Archive on your network to install Adobe Air and the Ning Network Archiver on your computer.  More information about archiving your content can be found here.

              • Fair enough :)

      • Agreed. If you do not have the technical ability, or the money to pay someone who does, I do not recommend jumping into ANY changes... it will all lead to disaster

Whilst continuing to enjoy your deckchair on the Titanic will turn out just fine presumably? There are three lifeboats here. One named "Wordpress'" and another named "SocialEngine". They both have holes in them. The third option is "Jamroom" which is the only viable one imho :)

    • I looked seriously at Jamroom but found that I would have to pay for emails to all of the members and we email members two to three times a week... about 7k members and there was no way to message them, like Ning has... unless this is changed, I couldn't consider them, because we communicate with the members so much, and that doesn't even begin to include the notifications from Groups and Discussions, between members... I think we counted between 100 K to 200 k messages a month and the cost for this was astronomical...

Right now I am looking at the Social Engine Cloud, but not sure about this....might just have to pay the increase for now

      • Hi Fred

Wow you have a lot of members! I've nowhere near that many.

Re. cost of emails at Jamroom, Paul over there states that up to 10000 emails a month can be sent freely from a Jamroom site. Am going to investigate their services further - initial impressions are very positive. They certainly monitor their forum and care about their customers - how promptly they replied to my question and offered to help me migrate has ticked a lot of boxes.

I would like to wish everyone else here the very best whether they decide to stay with Ning and suffer this price increase and the short notice to find elsewhere or not.

        Many blessings, Sam x

      • I saw in a previous thread someone from jam room tried to import the ning site and it didnt work.

        that sux on the emails

        • Yes Jamroom is not 100% apparently.  I saw that comment too.  One thing they don't talk about in their posts is their cost.  To build a site equal to a 2.0 is BIG.  I can't believe how much I spent there (based on other Creators raving a/b them) and I tried it three times and walked away each time.  Try to tweak even the littlest thing like a color took me forever to even find it.  Yes, they're fast in answering initially but then you're left flapping in the wind; alone.  I went insane bugging people who were struggling themselves.  The fact it too Strumelia six months to go live should tell you boatloads.  Smart guys but they're stuck in developer mode.  It's nothing at all like Ning.  Not by a mile.

          • I'm beginning to get past this learning curve... and with their free tool that provides dropdown navigating ease, and with their excellent search tool, I'm getting there.

Transitions this involved are not easy. . .  and are made more challenging given the breakdown in trust and this brutal price increase (on short turnaround notice!).  I switched my Ning plan to monthly a bit ago, as my distrust grew. . .  "the writing has been on the wall" / "the time has come" / beyond the tipping point now.

Fingers crossed and knocking on wood and so grateful for loyal members and friends who are stepping up to help out.  Despite Ning's lack of maintaining a sense of community, I hope many of us are lucky enough to have maintained OUR true sense of community (here and with the sites we have been managing).

Again, best wishes to all, whatever your choices!

Social Engine Cloud is a non-starter for 95% of Ning Creators. Don't waste your time on that one. Focus instead on Social Engine PHP.

        • Yes.  Agree with this (SE Cloud was essentially a waste of our time... seriously limited features compared with what we have been working with on Ning 2.0).

But Jamroom beats SE PHP cost-wise (at least for our circumstances).

Jamroom (again, at least for our experience so far) beats the heck out of SE for helpful, immediate, 'answering exactly what you ask for, directly -- most often with a link and a friendly tip).

As others have written, Jamroom's service is impressive (a real breath of fresh air and energy after Ning's pathetic responses these past many months).
