Servers maintenance

Hi there!

As I have promised in the previous announcement there would be scheduled maintenance due to server renovation.

We are planning to start on Thursday 14-th of September 7 am UTC and the works would last for 2 hours. Please note that networks won't be accessible at that period of time.

We do apologize for the temporary inconveniences.

Best regards,
Ning Team.

    • Hi Lorelei,

I can confirm, I have the same issue since Friday, on all my Ning 2 networks (it seems Ning 3 is not affected), it takes over 40 seconds to approve a new members and over 20 seconds to post a new blog. I reported this to Ning and they told me the tech department was alerted and it will be fixed within 24 hours, needless to say there is no fix yet and things are getting worse, sometimes I get 500 errors or "Resource not available" error if the page I'm trying to access takes more than one minute to load.

I also got reports from my members, so it's affecting everyone on my Networks.

Let's hope they will fix this soon.

      Best,

      Andrei

      • Hi, Andrei!

First of all, I would like to apologize for all the inconveniences caused, yes you are right we have only 2.0 networks in the report so it's seems that 3.0 works fine. And as I see all your network are already in teh report. And yes it appeared that the issue is much more complicated than we have thought from the first time, so it would take some time to fix it. However, it has the highest priority at teh moment and our tech team is already working on the solution.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

        Best regards,

        Ning Team.

      • Andrei - thanks for the information

      • On http:/www.datasciencecentral.com (100,000 members) and other of our Ning 2 networks, the following takes between 20 seconds and a minute (or sometime crashes) before completing:

        • Approving a new member
        • Accepting a member in a group
        • Approving a submitted blog post
        • Submitting a blog post

There might be other issues; these are the ones that I noticed, starting more than 48 hours ago.

        • Vincent --- we had similar issues earlier this year when we hit the 100k member cap for our plan. In fact, anthought we had been "GUARANTEED" by the old Ning management team that this would not be a problem, once new software fixes were in place our membership became frozen such that I was unable to approve any new requests and several applicants reapplied 2 or 3 times before giving up. When this occurred we were already at the 118k point and I had to go thru the tedious project of deleting 20,000 inactive members to free up some room (or else pay for the unlimited membership plan at 10x the cost).

Just some information you can consider as you seek answers to the problem with your group.
          • Hi, Kevin!

You shouldn't' pay a 10x cost for the plan with the unlimited number of members if you wish I can pass your email address to one of our account managers and he will be able to create the custom plan for you depends on your needs. Of course, it would be necessary to discuss the price with him but it shouldn't be 10x of what you are paying right now. Just let me know about your decision.

            Best regards,

            Ning Team.

          • Thank you Kevin, but this is not our case. We are passed the 100K member limit, though you are right we had problems when we hit the limit but we managed to upgrade to a custom plan without deleting any members.

The problem now is different and it has nothing to do with member limit, it takes over 40 seconds to approve a member once you click the Approve button, and we have hundreds of new members / day, so is not ideal. Same thing when posting a new blog or approving a new blog. Strangely this doesn't happen and page loads very fast if I decline a member, edit/delete a blog. So, it seems this only happens when adding new content to database.

            Best,
            Andrei

        • yes ... ditto. I forgot to list the network here. childrenofgaia.ning.com

      • Yes, I filed a report on ... thursday? Or friday? Same issue here. Posts are hanging, getting the dreaded pink "error code" image - both of course are sporadic so when the Ning techs go do a test post, it doesn't happen. this has been a problem for over a year now off and on. I'm really fed up. The entire last two weeks has been nothing but problems. And, of course, it's the weekend. I've noticed issues start showing up on thursdays and then nothing happens until Monday. I sure wish I had those working hours. (shaking my head here...)

        • Hi, Jennie!

Thanks for specifying the name of the network, as usual, it's not necessary but it has made my life a bit easier, thanks:-)

I have found both issues reported to teh QA department, but there is one thing I wish to specify when I have run several tests with comments on your network I haven't seen any error message after the comment been posted. So could you please share the link with me where you have seen this issue last time during posting (i meant this one: "dreaded pink "error code" image") and if you have the screenshot that would be a plus as well.

Also, you have mentioned that you have the same error here, have you meant creators network?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

          Best regards,

          Ning Team.
