Servers maintenance

Hi there!

As I have promised in the previous announcement there would be scheduled maintenance due to server renovation.

We are planning to start on Thursday 14-th of September 7 am UTC and the works would last for 2 hours. Please note that networks won't be accessible at that period of time.

We do apologize for the temporary inconveniences.

Best regards,
Ning Team.

                    • Hi Anam,

I have spent some time trying to reproduce the issue, with page scrolls. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to do it with the image or embed video, however, the issue has been reproduced once when I have pasted the link into the post (just by pressing CTRL+V), and right now I have something to show to the tech team :-) I guess this is the same issue you have when you are inserting the picture as it basically the pasting as well. Thanks for your patience regarding this matter.

And yes as far as I see this is happening from time to time as I wasn't reproduced just right now when I have tried to paste the text into this reply, so I guess QA department would spend some time trying to find teh appropriate conditions to reproduce it for sure.

                      Best regards,

                      Ning Team.

                    • Hi Anam,

Thanks for the detailed description I'm going to try this multiple times as you have suggested, also I'll check it from home as maybe it depends whether it's the office IP address or not. I'm not going to give up :-)

                      Best wishes,

                      Ning Team.

                    • Thanks Kyryl.

How it happens for me is this. Start a  discussion in Forum (I have not written blog recently, so don't know).

Enter Title. Start writing some lines, etc. Look for an image to post from somewhere on line, and copy and paste in image. Press return and continue writing post, everything is going ok. Keep going on for a while, writing and posting more images here and there, not for long, then suddenly after a random image is pasted and the return button pressed, i start to type text and the whole page flips up to the top of the group. I know the cursor is still down there, because if I scroll down the page to get to the discussiona and then scroll down the discussion itself (both times with down arrows tabs on left side of screen) there is the cursor waiting after the letter I typed that caused the ''flip''. If I touch keyboard to type again up it flips again. Sometimes i just write blind and scroll down later to correct (each correction causes flip) but as you can imagine this is not feasible.

So, it happens randomly...not after first image. It can happen after video embed too. It can suddenly stop, also, for no apparent reason, although usually once it starts it stays for the whole post, and just means lots of scrolling up and down and writing blind. If you want to reproduce, try several different images and several different times of typing between images. Maybe you also have to be  in admin mode too to get this experience? (Just a crazy thought!) You may have to try many times to get the bug reproduced but this bug is definitely there.

A small complaint here and there is still a small fainting canary in a coal mine.

Thanks very much for looking into it.

                  • Thanks for saying Kos, I have had it 2 days in a row now and on and off for a month
                    • True, anyway I really hope that FCC would listen to the publicity, as the main idea of the whole country structure is to protect the interests of the citizens but not the certain group of people. I hope FCC would keep this in mind when there would be the time to make the final decision.

                    • Kyryl, I was speaking of the overarching PTB *they*, not the Ning folks. And we all should be aware that net neutrality is a game to gain control of pricing and content; it has nothing to do with net freedom. Pray it dies an ugly death in December. if it happens, we're all in for some really ugly times in the net.

                    • Hi there!

We are not limiting bandwidth anyhow if our admins see that there are not enough resources for some network we would just add additional servers to make it stand still and work fine without notifying the customers about such changes unless some issues been noticed before those changes.

I read awhile back (sometime last year) that "they" were going to start filtering out bandwidth and slow down the public's use in the internet - I suppose it's to discourage us from being online.

Are you talking about internet neutrality? I haven't been following this question from the start but as I know the FCC will vote only in December, and I hope that the new text editor would fix teh issue with loading of it, as for that 1.5 hours that it was available on life networks for me at least it's been loading really fast, I haven't had an opportunity to measure that time but it seemed to be faster.

                      Best regards,

                      Ning Team.

                    • Server.............

                    • Yes, it seems sporadic. Server issue???

                    • Yes, and I've had it sporadically for a couple of months. Doesn't matter the browser, doesn't matter time of day, it's been really slow lately, and when the site doesn't fully load (and you don't notice that...), the flip happens ... worse, then when you try to post a comment you don't get a full comment box with all the tools. all you see is a blank window ... blech. I'm not sure it's Ning. I think it's a dramatic slowdown in service all over. I read awhile back (sometime last year) that "they" were going to start filtering out bandwidth and slow down the public's use in the internet - I suppose it's to discourage us from being online. Well, it's working. I'm fed up.
