Update to Product Roadmap and Communication Changes

Thank you for your patience over the past several weeks. As you know, we closely follow and appreciate the feedback you share on Creators, and we’d like to make a couple of important announcements related to your posts.

First, regarding the product, the team has been working over the last several months on re-architecting and re-developing a new Activity Feed for Ning 3.0. The new Activity Feed will include the addition of statuses and more embeds based on pasting links into the status field. This isn’t everything that the team is working on but the most significant short term new capability. We are planning to release this feature in July.

We also wanted to address the downtime that some of you experienced on May 26th and 27th. After the scheduled maintenance on Monday to update a group of servers, we discovered that some of the backup servers were malfunctioning. We've corrected this and have changed our operating procedures to prevent this from happening again.

On the communication side, based on several factors including resources and priorities, we have made the decision that we will no longer be involved in providing day-to-day support and feedback through the Creators community. Communication from the Ning team needs to be focused on product capabilities and new releases and other general announcements such as this one. Our team is focusing on expanding some of the planned features that we already have in development. Once we have more information to share with you, we will do it here.

Please continue to use this community as a productive place to have conversations about how to build, grow, and manage Ning Networks. We will continue to provide technical support through tickets and phone. As always, phone support is available to those with networks on Pro, Performance and Ultimate plans. Our technical support team is available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm PST.

  • Ah!  I found it!

SP- I remembered what i had titled that thread back in August 2013...that title pulled it up in a search.

Here it is, it's concerning the very same issue you are mentioning:

    https://creators.ning.com/forum/topics/i-m-so-dumb-what-we-see-when-...

So now creators.com  3.0 has been set back again to what it was before, with only 'featured' discussions showing on the home page, without them even being identified as being only featured discussions.     :(

    • Such radio silence is deafening.  Updates? Yes or No or Maybe?

  • SP,  about 18 months or so ago, when Creators was still on 2.0, I pointed out to Allison that it was weird to come to Ning.com home page and see only featured discussions.  It was really hard to find what was actually being currently discussed or to keep up.  Plus, the discussions on the Creators home page weren't even identified as being 'featured' discussions.  At the time, Allison agreed that it was not a good way to have things, and she wasn't sure when/why it had been set that way...so she CHANGED the Creators.com homepage to show recent discussions by default, with a smaller section at bottom clearly identified as 'featured discussions'.

When Creators 2.0 got migrated to 3.0 not long ago, it 'somehow' got switched back again, so now anyone coming to Creators.com sees ONLY featured discussions on the home page by default, and worse, they are not even labeled as being 'featured'.  It kinda stinks.  Now that Ning support team is MIA on Creators, i doubt anyone will be changing it back again.  One can always hope I suppose.  But since most of the active discussions tend to highlight platform glitches and problems people are experiencing, i guess it's in Ning's favor to have the 'first impression' homepage discussions be about all the neat stuff you can do on your site.  Makes a good impression on new visitors considering the Ning platform.

I tried to find my old discussion where Allison changed the default.

Since most of the search links to older discussions are now broken, I can't find that discussion anymore where Allison changed the homepage discussion order.

So then I went to my own Creators profile page to see if I could find my own thread that i started when I asked Allison to consider changing it. That's when i noticed I no longer have a feature on my profile page in Creators 3.0 now that lets me look through discussions I have started, or recent posts I have made.  So I can no longer find my own old discussion through my own profile page history either.  Damn.  sigh...it just seems everywhere I turn things are not as nice or functional as they were before.    :(

  • I've always found the selection of 'featured' discussions to be oddly random, so long ago I changed my Ning Creators Forum bookmark to take me to the forums' Latest Activity: https://creators.ning.com/forum/topics?sort=latestActivity  that way i know what's actually going on in real time.

To whom ever moderates the 'Ning' account,

If you're no longer supporting this forum would you mind at least changing the layout of the homepage?

Featured discussions are weeks old and if you're not going to be featuring any more then this is redundant.

I'd suggest latest activity in the forum or newest discussions.

Also, a few weeks back Crystal said that you'd be featuring more blogs on Creators. I guess that has also fallen by the wayside with her departure so its presence on the homepage is redundant.

    Thanks

....all is well..... all is well.... ALL IS WELL!

  • Good Luck, Crystal. More power to you. I think you made the right choice, just like most of us will eventually have to make. Based on the promises of a shift toward more focus on support and product development over the many years I've been so devoted to Ning, I'm not holding my breath that things will get any better. My network would have failed if not for the support of my fellow Network Creators. I have never received helpful support from Ning in all of my years with them, so I gave up on asking them for help long ago. I feel so defeated by the unkept promises and constant failing of functions, all while their focus moves in directions away from our Networks and toward more entertainment ventures. The turnover rate of employees is a big red flag, too.
