Update to Product Roadmap and Communication Changes

Thank you for your patience over the past several weeks. As you know, we closely follow and appreciate the feedback you share on Creators, and we’d like to make a couple of important announcements related to your posts.

First, regarding the product, the team has been working over the last several months on re-architecting and re-developing a new Activity Feed for Ning 3.0. The new Activity Feed will include the addition of statuses and more embeds based on pasting links into the status field. This isn’t everything that the team is working on but the most significant short term new capability. We are planning to release this feature in July.

We also wanted to address the downtime that some of you experienced on May 26th and 27th. After the scheduled maintenance on Monday to update a group of servers, we discovered that some of the backup servers were malfunctioning. We've corrected this and have changed our operating procedures to prevent this from happening again.

On the communication side, based on several factors including resources and priorities, we have made the decision that we will no longer be involved in providing day-to-day support and feedback through the Creators community. Communication from the Ning team needs to be focused on product capabilities and new releases and other general announcements such as this one. Our team is focusing on expanding some of the planned features that we already have in development. Once we have more information to share with you, we will do it here.

Please continue to use this community as a productive place to have conversations about how to build, grow, and manage Ning Networks. We will continue to provide technical support through tickets and phone. As always, phone support is available to those with networks on Pro, Performance and Ultimate plans. Our technical support team is available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm PST.

  • Hey folks, I'm with everyone else.  Have found myself struggling to remain loyal with such sudden silence coming out of Ning (and no new releases).  I do have to say, however, that the latest responses to my tickets have been trying to reassure me that some updates are coming (and soon).  idk what "soon" means to Ning (could be 3 months for all I know) however yesterday one of my tickets on an export tool was escalated to a supervisor (?) after I threatened legal action (yes I went there) and once again, she stressed that it's being developed and coming soon.

It would seem employees are sworn to secrecy but if they were going to shut down the platform, why even bother to lie to me about things being built and coming soon?  It would open them up to numerous lawsuits.

I guess I've decided to give Ning until the end of the year.  I decided to look at it is if I walk away from my 3.0, I will have to leave all of my data behind and start from scratch.  If Ning were to shut their doors, that would translate into the same thing for me so I'll roll the dice.

3237816?profile=originalMaybe there is a Santa Claus.

    Mode better not disappoint.

    • I have to agree Kos. I would look to see a huge update if not a complete program in October.
      • Randy yes I believe that's Mode's vision of the future.  "Brands" and video (maybe ecommerce?) rather than 'social' communities but I have no actual confirmation of this.  Just what I glean from marketing newsletters I receive.  Facebook is the titan.  Odds are incredibly slim anything would ever come close to it and now they're monetizing and digging deeper into search and advertising.  Even if you have 100k members, you're a blip on the screen vs FB.   Ebay and Amazon are following with advertising utilizing their customer base as well.  The growth is in mobile.  So what's left............

    • Well I am also letting my NING 2.0 site run until the end of this year.  This is an expensive experiment for me because I am also running a SE PHP site after migrating members over to it.  I don't think I can ever use 3.0 because of what I need and running SE PHP an NING side by side is costing me a fortune.  I don't trust GLAM MODE or whatever it is called now and knowing my 2.0 will go away, I am covered with another fully featured site, ie, SE PHP.  But six months of running two versions of my community has costs involved that I paid out of my pocket and it is all GLAM's fault.  They pulled trust right out from under creators who now scramble to make sense of what they should do.

    • NC for Hire

He's making a list and he's checking it twice Wonder if Kos is considered naughty or nice.

      • Define "naughty".  LOL

        • NC for Hire

You'll always be nice in my book but that's from my perspective as a fellow NC. I am just poking you with my reply and chuckling to myself about your post in sympathy. In terms of defining "naughty", I would say a very simple & loose definition could be someone who uses naughty words. :-)

  • I'm done waiting on NING JOOMLA HERE I COME.

    • To ease the pain of transition ( and to hedge your bets slightly ) you might try iframing joomla features into your Ning 3.0. It can work out well. Here is my events section ( Joomla based and iframed into Ning ). Needs more work ( lots in fact ) but it's shaping up well imho :-  http://americymru.net/events

      • that looks nice but me i'm not really trying to work all of these work arounds for a platform that you can't get help nor new updates for when where and how they will implement the resources a website needs to function I have already invested money in joomla so the switch is eminent just not sure how to work on joomla haven't really found tutorials on how to work and use joomla do you know of any tutorials that explains the back end of the joomla platform?
