Update to Product Roadmap and Communication Changes

Thank you for your patience over the past several weeks. As you know, we closely follow and appreciate the feedback you share on Creators, and we’d like to make a couple of important announcements related to your posts.

First, regarding the product, the team has been working over the last several months on re-architecting and re-developing a new Activity Feed for Ning 3.0. The new Activity Feed will include the addition of statuses and more embeds based on pasting links into the status field. This isn’t everything that the team is working on but the most significant short term new capability. We are planning to release this feature in July.

We also wanted to address the downtime that some of you experienced on May 26th and 27th. After the scheduled maintenance on Monday to update a group of servers, we discovered that some of the backup servers were malfunctioning. We've corrected this and have changed our operating procedures to prevent this from happening again.

On the communication side, based on several factors including resources and priorities, we have made the decision that we will no longer be involved in providing day-to-day support and feedback through the Creators community. Communication from the Ning team needs to be focused on product capabilities and new releases and other general announcements such as this one. Our team is focusing on expanding some of the planned features that we already have in development. Once we have more information to share with you, we will do it here.

Please continue to use this community as a productive place to have conversations about how to build, grow, and manage Ning Networks. We will continue to provide technical support through tickets and phone. As always, phone support is available to those with networks on Pro, Performance and Ultimate plans. Our technical support team is available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm PST.

                    • I completely agree with you,

                      If Ning was half way through a project, surely the company to buy them out, should continue that project,

                      O well, Glam have killed Ning :/
                      Glam have killed their own reputation, because Nobody on here likes them for what they've done to Ning aha, so ....

              • People absolutely litigate and beat TOS agreements -  a TOS is not a free pass and does not release a company from deceptive business practices and they absolutely can be pulled into court. I haven't had to go through Ning's TOS or agree to it in many years so I don't recall but if their TOS is not one that forces the user to see it and scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and then agree to it (ie acknowledging that they read it) then it absolutely can be challenged; additionally if they change the TOS but do not give notice to the users of the changes it can also be challenged on those grounds. Below is some info taken from Forbes at this link

                "1. provide clear and conspicuous notice of all terms;

                2. require counterparties to scroll through to the bottom of the terms and then type in their name in a signature box, click an “I Agree” button or otherwise expressly and  actively manifest their assent to the terms;

                3. prohibit any use of the website or commencement of the relevant services prior to such express and active manifestation of assent; and

                4. periodically have counterparties reconfirm their agreement to the terms.

                Barring that, at a minimum, companies should always provide at least inquiry notice of all terms, and require counterparties to manifest assent, through action or inaction, in a manner that reasonable people would clearly understand to be assent. For example, it may be sufficient to have website Terms of Use deemed enforceable if the owner clearly, conspicuously and contemporaneously informs all visitors that by using the website they accept and agree to abide by the terms. However, the Schnabel case makes clear that website Terms of Use that are available solely via a link in a small font at the bottom of a homepage, without any notice to users or reasonable manifestation of assent, are unlikely to be enforceable. One last point is that even online agreements that follow all of the foregoing guidelines will face enforceability challenges if their terms are objectionable on grounds applicable to contracts in general (e.g., adhesion, unconscionability, consumer legislation, public policy, statutes of frauds and other situations where a written document would be legally required)."

  • I will be satisfied when everything is done. I believe that a development team should work a little faster. For a business owner who is self employed and depends on this company and its services. I really do not like my hard earned money to go to waste. I appreciate the update. Just isn't enough. With all due respect. You may want to impose a little more time constraints on your team. I sure i am not the only business owner here who is losing money. My network looks and functions worst than when i joined in 2008. Everyone is moving forward except Ning. Can we please get it together. I am seriously thinking about taking appropriate actions to keep my business up to date. Because, as of now. My site is overwhelmingly disappointing. It really shouldn't take this long to get things in order. How about a major discount until things are ready. I wholeheartedly feel that i am paying for crap. With all this focus on the 3.0 version. I feel my money is being wasted. Ning hasn't even kept up with the 2.0 version. Why am i paying for something that is obsolete and doesn't work. What will be done to fix this problem. I really am tired of paying for junk. Get it together Ning. This is starting to look like a legal problem in the future. Not a threat. Just an idea. Can you please replace your slow team and get some real professionals. I see all these new designs and functions on sites that are brand new and a major hitter like Ning is majorly behind and costing good business owners money. Come on Ning. Earn your money for a change. This is completely unfair to all your clients/customers. Sorry, if i come off as rude. We as customers have waited entirely too long. I apologize if i have offended anyone. You'd understand if you saw the reviews for Ning and for my site as well. Not all good.

    • You should raise the complaint up to Mode Media Corporation, Nings parent company!

    • Well this question has been asked hundreds of times...no one knows and it appears NING doesn't care and has forgotten us.  So, you are wasting your time threatening to move elsewhere.

      • I know i am. I'm just a little perturbed that i am not able to find a replacement with the features, functions and tutorials that are available on Ning. This is the only reason i stick around. I also fear that i will not be able to move all my members to a new platform without having to start all over after so many years. Something has to be done. I just don't have an idea that will not backfire. Not yet anyway. I wish Ning would stop wasting our time and money. I pay my bill every month, for a service i'm not getting. Not even close anymore. All in all. You are absolutely correct Donna Mac. This whole thing is a waste of time. I'll add, a waste of my money.

        • I am in the same boat except that I have another alternative all set up.  It just is not as easy to navigate as NING 2.0.  So for six months I had both running.  (I bought the software for the other site)  Very costly...and here I am STILL AT NING WITH 2.0.  You and I and many others....we are being so patient and yet..........we have nothing to show for our loyalty and patience.  :(

  • No updates for almost a year. I guess Ning is forsale and can't find a buyer.
    • Complaint to  Nings's parent company Mode Media Corporation

  • Since the "upgrade" which imo is really a downgrade, my 3.0 community SUCKS compared to the 2.0, and there has been no update since last May- when all the hype was that there would be lots of improvements. No Chat? No Paywall? I have had to MANUALLY insert 1000 people into a premium group in my new ning. But they have made sure to charge me more for my "new and improved" ning. I hope someone from their team is watching this thread, because they are about to lose a customer. I am actively searching for a new community platform, this is not a threat- it's a promise.
