Welcome Landing Page Builder

Hello everyone!

Recently we have promised you to make a big announcement related to the new feature release. While it is still in beta, we can not keep silence anymore. The feature we wish to unveil is the result of collaborative work of the whole team. And needless to say that it’s one of the hugest updates we have announced here on creators. It was really hard to keep calm and not to mention anything regarding this new functionality during the communication with you for the last 6 months in order to make this surprise possible.

Long story short, let us introduce you Landing Page Builder (LPB). This is a new drag and drop page builder which gives you the possibility to create a page for your network in the fast and easy way. Builder itself is allowing you to change the web page without looking at some abstract modules and columns, it’s closer to the work of the sculptor, who is able to touch the stone he is working with. The only one difference, the sculptor doesn’t have a user-friendly interface. And of course, how could we leave pro users aside - with the LPB you get the full control over the HTML code, CSS and js code of the network. And by saying “full control”l we mean completely full, plus integrated code checker will be helping you to police typos in an easy and convenient way.

We can talk about the LPB for ages since it’s the milestone in the history of Ning, but it's better to try it out. Just follow these simple instructions to get started:

  1. Go to your network admin panel and select Site & Pages in the sidebar;
  2. Click “Add a landing page” in the main navigation menu;
  3. Enter the landing page title and tab title in the corresponding text fields;
  4. Define the URL for your new landing page;
  5. Click “Save”.

That’s it - your landing page is now created! For more information and recommendations visit our Help Center: click here

Please keep in mind that it’s still beta of the LPB which is showing the direction we are going to move design studio on. That’s why your feedback is extremely important for us, so don’t hesitate to share any ideas here on creators or with any of our support agents.

Hope you would be excited with it like we are.

Sincerely yours,

The Ning Team.

  • I tried to add video to the landing page but it doesn’t work is there a fix’s for this yet?

    • Hi there!

      Could you please specify, how have you tried to add a video? If you tried to embed it - from what platform? Please share a link to the video if you don't mind. Also, any kind of screenshot or screencast would be helpful!

      Looking forward to your reply!

      Best regards,

    • Hello!

      You can change the font by selecting the text you want to edit and pressing "T" button in the appearing bar - http://take.ms/jSsVV

      As far as I see, you are using the default browser audio player, and, unfortunately, there is not any way to style HTML5 <audio> players using CSS.

  • On a hunch, to solve the issue, what did you use as the page URL for your site when you enabled the feature in the page builder?

    Some platforms let you choose any URL, but perhaps may have default parts of URLs which don't respond well to a dedicated signed out view.

    I used "/main"

    I thought that would've been a good one, but apparently my choice was not so good.

    We know from Ceddy J the "/welcome" link works fine. Thanks for that :).

    • To add to this theory, I found out if you don't edit your default home page template, your default home page before the new landing page builder feature is implemented uses the URL "/home" without quotes.

      Now, if you've used that for your landing page, my theory is that it has to be a dedicated URL on the site. Something that does not already have a purpose assigned to it, even as a part of a scripts sub URL structure.

      I think in my case I may've accidentally figured out "/main" is a part of the Ning platform's infrastructure in some way. Hence the potential error. I could be mistaken though.

      If this is true, and if by changing the URL by your own intervention or by asking Ning support for assistance to do it for you, fixes the problem, then it should be simple to write a script to check to see, globally for the page builder, if a URL is available to set for a dedicated feature instance.

      Although the bug mentions the inability to edit the page while in draft status, the ability to change status makes this no longer a problem on Ning's side of things once fixed. However I may've uncovered something else with this feature, that could turn out to be a potential issue if made aware of. And that's to do with dedicated URL structure checks to ensure the URL you're entering isn't being used by another link for the site.

      For example, if yourningsite.ning.com/admin takes you to the control panel, if you typed in "/admin" without quotes for your landing page, an error should pop up informing you that "/admin" redirects you to a URL structure already in use on your site.

      • Hello!

        You are right, /main directory is used for the admin panel - http://take.ms/HtX3W

        This is why you can no longer access your dashboard. We are going to block the usage of "main" in LP URL to prevent such cases in the future.

        I am sorry for such inconveniences.

        • Well thanks for fixing it :). that's a good idea. I'm sorry that I caused that issue to occur. but at least nobody else will have that happen to them.

          • Hello!

            You are welcome :) And you have nothing to apologize for, since we haven't predicted such case in advance, its good that it occurred right after the launch and we can promptly fix it!

            Best regards,

            The NING Team

            • Excellent :). It's a win win all around.
