Current status of the Ning Platform is always available on the Ning Status Blog.

The new chat is a little on in that you have to click to see who's online and the text does not really indicate you have to click Main room at the top of the chat to see them. Now we could goto the language editor to change the wording but that may meen you would have to go back in there to change it again if Ning changes the chat design, so here is just a snippit of css to help members get the idea they have to click the link to see who's online.

.cht-forwardSymbol::after{content:"Online Now"; margin-left:4px; display:inline-block }

I am looking to see how I can get the online members to show in another section so you can see who's online without having to keep clicking the link. You will have to click it at least once as the div is empty until you do and then it get's populated by the members.

I must say though it is a very odd way to do the chat.

  • The way to "get out" of Chat made me crazy.  The wording just wasn't instructive.  I mean, we know we're connected - how did we get out?  One little change in Language Editor solved that problem.

  • I think it would be nice to have a box that we can choose to have like an element to add to our page so creators can put a "who's on" and where we want to add the element on the front page.

    • Hi there!

      Just want to clarify something. So basically you wish to have a module that could be put anywhere on the page and in that module, there should be information about members who are online?

      Please correct me if I'm wrong, I just want to make sure that we are on the same page before I have passed this suggestion to the management.

      Ning Team.

  • ''who's online'' should simply be visible upon connecting to chat (in answer to where the ''who's online'' box should be.)

    I'm following this discussion John, to see if later you might come up with code to have online members show where one might expect them. Thank you.

    • Hi there!

      Please take a look at the picture I have attached to the comment, and sorry for my cave art style.

      Have you meant something like this? Or maybe it should be a stand-alone module like forum/blogs etc.

      Looking forward to hearing from you.

      Best regards,

      Ning Team.

      • That is a  Nice example !

        • Hi Javier!

          That's nice I have passed this picture and the suggestion itself when Anam has posted his reply, so I'm glad that I don't have to change the picture there :-)

          Best regards,

          Ning Team.

  • Hey John. I tried putting this code into custom css in design studio. It's not working. Any thoughts on that? I have tried to put it in several times to no avail. Hope all is well!
    • Hi Jennifer,

      I have reviewed the code that you are using on the site and found the why it wasn't working. It just because you have inserted by mistake John's code into another style or probably you have removed one "}". Basically, all you need to do is:

      1. Open Custom CSS tab in design studio, scroll it to teh bottom and find this code

      .xg_info.chatTitle::after {
      content: "Chat";

      2. Just after the "Chat"; please insert this symbol }.

      3. Don't forget to publish the changes.

      If you have any question, please let me know.

      Best regards,

      Ning Team.

      • Hi Kyryl,
