It is a problem with blogs cover photos as when you upload a large portrait photo it gets turned into a landscape photo in all display of it and ther is no where to adjust it. Such as:</p><p> </p><p><a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.mysite.com/blog%C2%A0">http://www.mysite.com/blog </a>;</p><p> </p><p>instead of every one of my member's blogs showing up there. </p><p> </p><p>I currently have renamed a Page to mysite.com/blog but that doesn't really create RSS-friendly posts - I just create a new sub page any time my community newslettter is posted to the "blog." </p><p> </p><p>SEO being what it is, it would benefit my site greatly to have a mysite.com/blog with dated URls for my posts. Any idea how I can accomplish this ? There must be something obvious I'm not thinking to try :(</p><p> </p><p>Carrie</p><p> </p></div>Blogs 3.0 Previous and Next buttonshttps://creators.ning.com/forum/topics/blogs-3-0-previous-and-next-buttons2017-06-09T22:30:04.000Z2017-06-09T22:30:04.000ZAlliancehttps://creators.ning.com/members/Alliance<div><p>It seems one aspect that was in Blogs on 2.0 is not on the 3.0 platform and this is the Previous and Next buttons.</p>
<p>I always thought this was a good feature especially if you wanted to research or follow one specific poster and his content.</p>
<p>For example I have a person who writes a book online one chapter at a time.</p>
<p>Is there any chance on having this return for 3.0 even if it is an option? </p>

<p>This little tip will give you the chance to add a popular blogs module to any page, a bit like the ones we have for latest activity etc. If you visit my site you will see on the homepage the popular blogs module, I have added both type in a tab container so you can see both of them. So one just shows the titles and the other shows more detail. The show more link at the bottom will take you to the blog page in the most popular sort mode.</p>
<p><strong>PLEASE NOTE</strong>: The code below is only for one main blog page instance, I am working on a way to be able to add multiple blogs page instances without having to copy and paste the code several times and edit it.</p>
<p>Anyways for now here is how you add one to a page.</p>
<ol>
<li>You go to your site and pages then go to a page where you want to add the module</li>
<li>Click on the add content button then give the module a title</li>
<li>Click on the little html button and paste in the div ( choose which you want from the titles or detailed ) which is going to hold the blog info</li>
<li>Click add to place it onto the page then put it where you want it.</li>
</ol>
<p>That's it, you can add the module to anypage and as many as you want. The code does the rest and in the code you will alter how many items you want to display and the url for the blog page. You only need do this once.</p>
<p>First of all here are the two divs for you to choose from</p>
<p><div class="popblogs"></div></p>
<p><div class="popblogsDetail"></div></p>
<p>Next we need to add some custom code and in the part in bold is where you add your url for your blog page. You just need to add the last part of it.</p>
<p>For example if your blog page was called myblog the url for it might be something like"bizzssite.ning.com<strong>/myblog</strong>  "it would only be the part <strong>/myblog</strong> we would need to add. If unsure open your blog page and look at the browser url for it and you will see the part to add at the end. Both the blog titles and blog details code is all added together in this one block.</p>
<p>If your blog page is already just called blog then you are good to go without changing anything.</p>
<p><strong>Custom code to go in your site and pages end of page section REMEMBER TO CHANGE THE URL IN BOLD FOR YOUR BLOG UNLESS YOU HAVE CALLED IT BLOG( do not copy this line with the code )</strong></p>
<p><script><br />
// Blogs Popular Modules<br />
x$(document).ready(function(){<br />
x$(".popblogs, .popblogsDetail").closest(".entry-content.cf").addClass("popblogsContent");<br />
x$('<div/>',{ class : 'popblog-footer'}).appendTo('.popblogsContent');<br />
x$(".popblogs").load(' <strong><span style="color: #000000;">/blog</span></strong>?sort=mostPopular .blogListPage .entry-headline.media-frame');// Headllines<br />
x$(".popblogsDetail").load(' <strong><span style="color: #000000;">/blog</span></strong>?sort=mostPopular .entry.blogListPage-entry');// Headlines Plus Detail<br />
 x$('<a href=" <strong>/blog</strong>?sort=mostPopular">View More..</a>').appendTo('.popblog-footer');// View more is only one link as it's the same page<br />
});<br />
</script></p>
<p><strong>Next we need a little bit of CSS to set out amount of blogs we want to show</strong></p>
<p>In the code below you will see this :nth-child(n+3) and this is what controls the amount of post we want to show. How it works is after the first three divs remove all the rest and just show those. Now here is the important part, because our container holding the content is a div it counts in the list so n+3 will just show two blogs. So it's main div plus two blogs equals three. So if you want let's say five blogs to show up you would edit it to look like this</p>
<p>:nth-child(n+6)          main div + 5 blogs = 6</p>
<p><strong>CSS to go in your design studio custom css section ( do not copy this line )</strong>.</p>
<p>/** LIMIT THE DISPLAY OF POP BLOGS **/<br />
/* hides all after the first two as main div is included so if it was n+2 then only one will show etc */<br />
/* TITLES ONLY LIST */<br />
div.popblogs header.entry-headline:nth-child(n+3){ display:none }<br />
/* DETAIL LIST*/<br />
div.popblogsDetail .blogListPage-entry:nth-child(n+3){ display:none }</p>
<p><br />
.popblog-footer, .popblog-footer a:hover{ text-align:right; text-decoration:none }<br />
.popblogsDetail .entry.blogListPage-entry .entry-footnote{ display:none }<br />
.popblogsDetail .entry.blogListPage-entry { border-bottom: solid 1px lightgrey }</p>
<p></p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><span style="color: #000000;"><strong>EXTRA TIP</strong></span></span></p>
<p>That's it all done, you can come back and edit the list lengths at any time. If you are more experienced with adding css you could change the list length depending on the page you are adding them to by copying the line then adding the page name before it something like this</p>
<p>So let's say on my homepage I want a longer list than the standard one we first added in the css code for the page titles one , we would simply copy that line and make a change to it with our page name and it it to our css and that line would like something like this which would show us 7 blog titles.</p>
<p>/* TITLES ONLY LIST */<br />
.page-home div.popblogs header.entry-headline:nth-child(n+8){ display:none }</p>
<p>Well that's it. Sounds more complicated to explain how to add it than it is so give it a go and see how you get on.</p>
<p>Enjoy</p>
<p>John :-)</p>

</div>How To Add Missing Blog Filterhttps://creators.ning.com/forum/topics/how-to-add-missing-blog-filter2016-12-31T23:17:45.000Z2016-12-31T23:17:45.000ZBizz ( John )https://creators.ning.com/members/Bizz<div><p>One thing that is missing in the blogs pages is the chance to filter by Newest, Most Popular and Latest Activity, this is available in forums but not blogs so here is a way to be able to add one.</p>
<p>Maybe this is something the new Ning team could add but until then here is my option.</p>
<p>You can go to my blog page to see it working here : <a href="http://bizzssite.ning.com/blog" target="_blank">http://bizzssite.ning.com/blog</a></p>
<p>Let's get started.</p>
<p>First we need to add the sort options list onto the blog page. We do this for each blog instance you want to add the sort option for. So if you have more than one blog page you would just do this part on each of those pages.</p>
<ol>
<li>Go to your sites&pages and click on the blog page you are adding this to.</li>
<li>Select the add content option and choose html, click on the small html icon and paste the html code below into it then click save/update</li>
<li>Next move the html box to the top of your blog page.</li>
<li>Save the page.</li>
</ol>
<p>CODE TO PASTE INTO THE BOX ( DO NOT COPY THIS LINE )</p>
<p><div class="filterBlogs">Sort Blogs<br /><br />
<select name="sort" onchange="document.location.href=this.options[this.selectedIndex].value;"><br />
<option value="/blog" selected="selected">Select An Option</option><br />
<option value="/blog?sort=newestPosts">Newest Posts</option><br />
<option value="/blog?sort=latestActivity">Latest Activity</option><br />
<option value="/blog?sort=mostPopular">Most Popular</option><br />
</select></div></p>
<p>Now we need to add the CSS to your custom css section, we only need to do this once, it's only the html box's you copy more than once if you have multiple blog pages.</p>
<p>/** BLOGS FILTER CSS CODE **/<br />
/* Filter Blogs Box Under Module Header In Blogs */<br />
.filterBlogsBox{<br />
    border-width:2px;<br />
    border-style: none none solid;<br />
    border-color: lightgrey;<br />
    padding: 4px 10px;<br />
    border-radius: 0px;}<br />
/* Adjust the size for the font for the additional text under the name to show the filter state */<br />
.blogListPage .sortstate{ font-size:0.6em }</p>
<p>Finally we add the Custom Code which goes into your Site Manager Custom Code End Of Page section. Again we only need to add this once.</p>
<p><!-- ADDS THE TYPE OF FILTER YOU CHOSE TO THE BLOG HEADING WHEN SORTING --><br />
<script><br />
x$(document).ready(function() {<br />
if(x$(location).attr('search')==="?sort=newestPosts"){<br />
x$('.blogListPage .module-name').append("<div class='sortstate'>Sorted By: Newest Posts</div>");<br />
}<br />
});<br />
</script><br />
<script><br />
x$(document).ready(function() {<br />
if(x$(location).attr('search')==="?sort=latestActivity"){<br />
x$('.blogListPage .module-name').append("<div class='sortstate'>Sorted By: Latest Activity</div>");<br />
}<br />
});<br />
</script><br />
<script><br />
x$(document).ready(function() {<br />
if(x$(location).attr('search')==="?sort=mostPopular"){<br />
x$('.blogListPage .module-name').append("<div class='sortstate'>Sorted By: Most Popular</div>");<br />
}<br />
 });<br />
</script><br />
<br />
<!-- FILTER TIPS BOX CLASS ADDITION TO THE HTML BOX --><br />
<script><br />
x$('.filterBlogs').closest('.grid-frame.sheet.section-html').addClass('filterBlogsBox');<br />
</script><br />
<br />
<!-- PLACES THE BLOG FILTER UNDER THE MODULE HEADER MAIN SECTION --><br />
<script><br />
x$('.filterBlogsBox').prependTo('.section-primaryContent .blogListPage .module-body');<br />
</script><br />
<!-- REMOVES THE BLOG FILTER UNDER THE MODULE HEADER DETAIL PAGE --><br />
<script><br />
x$(".blogDetailPage").parents().find(".filterBlogsBox").remove();<br />
</script><br /></p>
<p>That's it your all done now you should have a blog filter.</p>

<p>This is a simple yet potentially lucrative tip to insert Google Adsense or Yahoo/Bing Ads (or anything really) after the first paragraph (defined by <p> tags) in all content in forum or blog posts (including member posts).<br> <br> <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>ADS IN BLOGS:<br> <br> <a target="_self" href="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/553116?profile=original">Click to enlarge preview<img class="align-full" src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/553116?profile=RESIZE_320x320" width="200"></a></strong></span>Here is the script to insert adverts under the first paragraph in <strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">BLOG POSTS</span></strong>. The <strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">red script</span></strong> will need to be replaced with your own Google Adsense or Yahoo/Bing ads script.<br> <br> Put it in your <strong>custom code</strong> box:</p>

</div>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>ADS IN FORUM POSTS</strong> - same as above but use this code and change the <strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">red script</span></strong>.</p>
<div style="padding: 10px; width: 450px; border-width: 1px; border-style: solid; border-color: #666666; background: #f9f9f9;">

</div>
<p><br> I have tested this pretty thoroughly and only come across a couple of instances where the ads weren't where I expected them to be. 95% of the time they are after the first paragraph, <span style="color: #000000;"><strong><em><span style="text-decoration: underline;">assuming that the html generated in the content has the correct <P></span><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">tags.</span></span></em></strong></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000;">If your ads are not going to fill the width of the page, for example if they are 200px wide, and you want the following paragraph to wrap around the advert then add this css to your advanced css section:<br> <br> <em>#ContentAdverts{</em><br> <em>width:220px;</em><br> <em>float:left;</em><br> <em>margin-right:15px;</em><br> <em>}</em><br></span></p>

There's a lot, and some you shouldn't change so be careful.   Now its very clear to anyone on the site.   "Add a Product Review"  "Read Product Reviews" "Featured Product Reviews" and so on.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>I went a step further and added a page to start to pump up the submission of these blogs/reviews.   I may add incentives at some point as well.  I also added a tab and a banner for reviews.</p>
<p>Here's the page: <a href="http://girlriders.ning.com/page/product-reviews">http://girlriders.ning.com/page/product-reviews</a></p>
<p> </p>
<p>I hope this give someone some ideas of their own for utilizing blogs in their network.</p>

<p> </p>
<p> Was going through my analytics for the year, and noticed some trends that I think are caused by live chat, and possibly hurting my overall page views. I don't (yet) want to bring up what exactly I'm seeing in the trends, I want to discuss it to see if there are trends we can relate to live chat. </p>
<p> </p>
<p>First, I want to ask those who have live chat. Do you think your specific pages viewed could/would be drastically different without live chat?</p>
