I'm pretty stoked. I just came across this free service from ZergNet. I think it's going to work out between us.

Here's what happens: ZergNet crawls your site for original blog posts/articles, and offers them to visitors of other, related sites that also have ZergNet widgets. You put a widget on your site, offering your members/visitors temping articles that coincide with their interests. Of course, they leave your site to read the articles...but I think the widget offers enough value and potential in incoming traffic to compensate for that.

I've put the widget on my site, here's what it looks like (under "articles you might like"):

ZergNet offers primarily entertainment and technology content.

The widget and service is free, but if any of you are interested in adding it to your network -- I'd love it if you'd be so kind as to use the referral link below (which will boost my site's visibility across the ZergNet empire for each site I refer). :-)

  • Looks pretty helpful!

    Would be neat to have something similar to zergnet or one of the many other "related content" link suggesters that was for Ning sites only - keep the traffic among our sites :-)  NCs could opt-in and the code would crawl and suggest other Ning sites to visit.  If we're sending outbound traffic, might as well send it to our NC friends and colleagues.  Or maybe we don't want to send our members to other Ning sites?  That's why it would have to be optional and Opt-in.  Just a thought.

    Great find, thanks for sharing this! :-)

    Best wishes,

    "TJ"

    • Great idea TJ

    • Agreed!

  • i checked it out & its a good tool. not for u s though as the categories just dont make a good "fit"

    thanks for the tip though!

  • I checked it out and it looks really good but as lorianne said "the categories just dont make a good "fit""

    • :-) I hear you. It just happened to work really well for my film/vfx/tv/gaming-centric network.

      • Ill be keeping my eye in this and will be adding to my site as soon as they have more categories - Great find and thanks for sharing Kirsty

        • me too, in fact i dropped them a note suggesting they add categories.  that would be great!

  • UPDATE: I've managed to add ZergNet to the bottom of every blog post, after my LinkWithin results, and match the styling.

    Here's what it looks like:

    The style of the widget can be customized from ZergNet, but here's the code I used to add it to the bottom of every blog post and connect it to my LinkWithin widget by defining the background color and adding a smidge of extra padding. Insert the code into the "Custom Code" box, BEFORE the LinkWithin code (if you're using both, like me):

    <script src="http://www.zergnet.com/zerg.js?id=REPLACE THIS TEXT WITH YOUR ID"></script>

    <script type="text/javascript">
    if (typeof(x$) != 'undefined') {
    x$("DIV.xg_module.xg_blog.xg_blog_detail.xg_blog_mypage.xg_module_with_dialog").after('<div id="zergnet-widget-REPLACE THIS TEXT WITH YOUR ID" style="text-align:center;;padding-bottom:25px;padding-right:25px;padding-left:25px;background:#000000;"></div>');
    }
    else{
    }
    </script>

    • Hello,

      I used your referral link and this sounds like a great idea!

      My post is related to beauty, reviews, etc. I'm not sure how our posts would be relevant to others but know that my readers will enjoy following up on Entertainment related news..

      quick question: I just added the code and the text "related posts" or "you might also like" isn't there..do I need to add this text somewhere? Also, will this also pull up content from my site to show related articles or only from zergnet?

      Also the same links are throughout the site, are they supposed to be different from post to post?

      the zergnet posts are actually in the footer of all the sites so I removed the code..is that where there supposed to go? b/c that's not what I want, lol

      thanks.
