Is This A New Feature ?

If this has been added by the new Ning team then this is great and thankyou!

In all the years I have been with Ning I can't remember seeing this, now it just might have been there all the time and I never really noticed it but if it is new it's great!

I am in the process of setting up another site and was going through all the settings as you do and went into the Privacy tab to find two options,

One for invite only which means you set your sign up to ticked but it does not show up and an admin can only send invites out for members to join, I have needed that on many occasions in the past while setting up a site but did not want to activate the sign up but rather just invite people to join until I wanted to go fully public with invites. Before I had to activate the sign up, wait for the person to join then de-activate it or set an account up myself for them with details they provided.

And the other was to set a blanket setting for all pages to become member viewable only by just one click!  To be sure I not missed this before I went into the Ning 3 help center and took a look at what it said about privacy and yes it stated there that there was not a way to do this site wide but do it page by page as you set them.

This is great, not having to worry about changing that setting until ready. To check on what it does to the pages in the viewable option I went into my site & pages to chaeck them out and it still says Everyone ( Public ) on them, so another test to make sure by typing in the pages url and woh and behold you can't see it. This is great, now can go and set all the pages up not having to worry about going back and changing all the pages to public from admin. I simple goto privacy and un-tick the box. When a non member goes to any page they just get the sign in page.

Here is a screenshot of those options

  • Hi John,

We don't wish to disappoint you but this option was available before. This option is pretty easy to use so there is no article in the help centre about it.

    Apologies for the inconvenience.

    Regards,

    Ning Team.
