Newsfeed problems

Ning Team I think I know what is wrong with some of the newsfeed problems.

Say someone signs up for a ning network with the name of network pumpkinsoap.ning.com ok so three months ago someone else also firstly created pumpkinsoap.ning.com they did not keep their network, so ning cancelled it. Ning should Delete all their Cancelled networks, because if you re create a ning name address that someone else already had its causing a traffic jam in some way on your site.

The newsfeed is sticking because of your choice in a name for your ning address.... bottle neck.

Because ning cancelled the network, I suppose it sits in a type of queue then someone comes along and recreates the name address as live, new account and so on. It deactivates as a billed term and also in its cron or javascript or whatever runs that poor excuse for a newsfeed.

Just saying. Just totally delete all of the deleted or cancelled networks and start over fresh and I bet things start running smoothly again here.

You can put things in the trash can but the bag still needs to taken to the curb and emptied.

This issue is just another reason why I moved my site some place else. I like ning because I like the rss newsfeed option. I still want a 2.0 tho so if you are selling one please think of me.

  • Hello!

I see where you coming from, but I can assure you that previously created networks with the same subdomain do not affect an activity feed on a live site. We keep the content of canceled networks on our servers for 2 months, after that our system automatically permanently deletes the content and all the data from the storage.

I can recommend you to check some recent discussions here on creators, I believe someone wanted to sell a 2.0 network.

    Best regards,

    • Thanks for getting back to me and btw the new newsfeed activity is spot on, works great across the entire network. :)

The reason I suggested this is, I have signed up before with a subdomain called vampires.ning.com and was able to see who held the network before me, had old mail from them to ning tech in my support area and even old chat names listed on the chat itself, and I did not have any members.

Just a suggestion, if say someone did get the same domain name or sub within a two month period, this could occur?

      • Hello Ana!

I am glad to hear that newsfeed activity is now working properly :)

I can tell you with 100% certainty that no, it cannot happen. Are you sure that you created a website vampires.ning.com from scratch (meaning you started a 14day trial at your ning.com account) and didn't reactivate a previously existing website? What you describe is really odd and I`ve never heard of such a bug on our platform.

        Best regards,

        The NING Team
