Current status of the Ning Platform is always available on the Ning Status Blog.

Step-by-step migration guide

1) Getting started with Ning 3.0 network

Firstly, we will create a blank website on the Ning 3.0 platform for you. This way you will not spend a single day of your 14-day trial period on waiting till all the data is transferred to the new platform.

2) Launching content migration from your Ning 2.0!

We will copy all the content and transfer it to Ning 3.0 network. It includes all the photos, videos, posts, forums, groups, events, articles, pages, messages, comments, and other data. The duration of this step mostly depends on the quantity of the data you have on your 2.0 website.

3) First steps towards new layout and design

We can discuss your preferences in terms of design and help you create a brand new network style with the assistance of our developer or recreate the design from your Ning 2.0 website.

4) Start of the trial period

Once everything is settled, we activate an agreed billing plan with a 14-days free trial. You can use this time to get acquainted with the new platform, check all the features and the migrated content, and get ready to move your members to the updated network.

Here are plans for both platforms:

*If none of the Ning 3.0 plans suit your needs, a custom plan may be negotiated.

5) Final stage

At the final stage of the migration process, our team updates the content on Ning 3.0 (we will migrate all the content that was added to your 2.0 network during 3rd and 4th steps), switches URLs between your Ning 2.0 and Ning 3.0 network and helps you with setting up your custom domain. Finally, upon your request, we cancel Ning 2.0 website and credit your account`s balance* for unused time.

*the credit will be added to your ning.com account and can be used towards upcoming payments for the subscription(s)

  • Want to migrate
  • @Support. We would like to test 3.0. We have a 3.0 sandbox from the original release which uses a different URL than our 2.0 site. We do not use a custom domain on NING.

In the OP, you advise "you will see some of the data from your Ning 2.0 network transferred to your Ning 3.0 network". When I read the word "transferred" I think that means you are moving content FROM the 2.0 platform TO the 3.0 platform, the end result being the information will no longer be available on 2.0. What exactly is transferred? ...Thanks, Asil
    • To clarify a bit, I am trying to understand what issues we might have should we choose not to move forward with the 3.0 version. If that were the case, what (if anything) would have been removed from the 2.0 site. And if removed, could it be returned. Thanks!
      • Hello Asil!

Not really, it is more like a copy-paste situation. All the content will stay on 2.0 website, and if you decide not to proceed with 3.0 platform you can easily come back to your current site.

        Best regards,
        The NING Team
  • I have 2.0 and would like to know how long I can keep it before I have to go to 3.0. I have a lot of stuff I want to get straight and archive if I have to switch. Plus I have 2 or 3 members that have deceased but other members like to keep their memory going, will their pages migrate or be deleted?
  • I have had a 3.0 built and ready for several years now...I spent a lot of money on coding... but it does not function properly... Also what happened to those of us who were guaranteed "Grandfathering" into the 3.0 at the same price as our 2.0... because we worked hard with Ning to be guinea pigs!! there are many of us in that group...
  • Do we HAVE to switch to 3.0? Is this mandatory? TIA for your help.
    • Hello Christine!

It is not mandatory, you can stay on your 2.0 network and continue to use it.

      Best regards,
      The NING Team
  • Hello, we most definitely want to switch over to 3.0. However, we have had our 2.0 network since 2010 and we have a lot of materiel, blogs, pictures, forums, classrooms, groups, videos and more. Would all of our information get switched over?
    • Hi there!

During migration, all the information and members will be transferred, except for the info that is tied to the features that are not supported on 3.0. For example, the design and layout will not be transferred since 3.0 has a whole different set of tools in the design studio and gifts since there is no such feature on 3.0, and so on.

      Best regards,
      The NING Team
