I was born in Iran and lived in city called Abadan into my early teen years. In 1980, Sadam's Iraq attacked Iran and my city of Abadan, home to Middle East's largest refinery was a prime target. Pretty much most of it's population including my family fled. 30 years later, the children of Abadan are dispersed around the globe, from the far corners of Asia to the United states and the Americas. About 3 years ago I made a trip back 27 years after the attack, having lived in the U.S. for most of that time. I posted a photo essay online about my trip and was overwhelmed by hundreds of email responses. The touching emotional responses made me realize that there were many more like me that longed for the city of their childhood and many like me had lost touch with their friends. As a result, I set up a Ning account for Abadan and the result has been more than I had dreamed. There are close to 3000 members with a slew of reunions in it's wake. There has been reunions in Iran, Germany, Canada, U.S. and so on with an uber reunion in the works in Vegas. There is not a day that goes by without receiving thankful emails of reunited friends, classmates and so on. Thank you Ning.
