I'm just getting started with Ning. I've created two "demo" sites for my daughter's pre-school, and I'm trying to get the school administrators to abandon another site that everyone hates and doesn't use in favor of Ning. (One Ning was meant for the entire school (with Groups for each class) but I couldn't get anywhere with the Board; I built the second one as a class site, and now I have a couple teachers and parents interested. So as soon as I get an answer from them, I will delete the demo that we don't use.
