Update to Product Roadmap and Communication Changes

Thank you for your patience over the past several weeks. As you know, we closely follow and appreciate the feedback you share on Creators, and we’d like to make a couple of important announcements related to your posts.

First, regarding the product, the team has been working over the last several months on re-architecting and re-developing a new Activity Feed for Ning 3.0. The new Activity Feed will include the addition of statuses and more embeds based on pasting links into the status field. This isn’t everything that the team is working on but the most significant short term new capability. We are planning to release this feature in July.

We also wanted to address the downtime that some of you experienced on May 26th and 27th. After the scheduled maintenance on Monday to update a group of servers, we discovered that some of the backup servers were malfunctioning. We've corrected this and have changed our operating procedures to prevent this from happening again.

On the communication side, based on several factors including resources and priorities, we have made the decision that we will no longer be involved in providing day-to-day support and feedback through the Creators community. Communication from the Ning team needs to be focused on product capabilities and new releases and other general announcements such as this one. Our team is focusing on expanding some of the planned features that we already have in development. Once we have more information to share with you, we will do it here.

Please continue to use this community as a productive place to have conversations about how to build, grow, and manage Ning Networks. We will continue to provide technical support through tickets and phone. As always, phone support is available to those with networks on Pro, Performance and Ultimate plans. Our technical support team is available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm PST.

      • I am guessing he will be mum on this subject to keep the Ning relationship.

  • Will we have larger photos in the Activity Feed? This is very important to members.

  • That is so wonderful! about the activity feed as we really need more...20 postings is not enough...i don't post so as not to knock my customers out....the communication...that is what sets you guys apart from all the other hosting companies...i host with 4 others and ning makes you feel like family here.

  • As someone who is just about to launch what hopefully will become an international network with millions of members this it is not nice to read neither NING's strategy or the many :( comments from all of you that have been on board for longer. Should we consider to change strategy and build our own networking platform (we do incorporate that this could be a reality further down the line but for other reasons) just like www.pickevent.com have done recently or can we rely that NING will be able to deliver going forward?  As posted elsewhere we believe that NING can work for us for now if they just get those basic features in now - like events, chat, paid access, video etc.

    • Soon to be a year and a half and still far from a finished product, at full price, and now far less communication and fewer updates from Ning.

Maybe better to beat a dead horse than expect to keep riding it.  I have been waiting and hoping for over a year now, but things are looking DOWN, not up, and like Jelena I'll now be starting to lay other plans.

  • Dear Ning

Greetings. I am very long time Ning user and one of the things that has always differntiated your work is engagement with the community and taking our input, providing feedback, etc. I really hope you will reconsider this decision as having Ning staff on this forum has been critical to responding to concerns, showing us what Ning is thinking, etc.

Please, please keep up the customer engagement and practice what you preach, instead of turning Ning into a one way traditional communication system. If you lose aspect I also think will be a great loss for ning creators and the company.

  • Hi folks,

The announcement says this: "...we will no longer be involved in providing day-to-day support and feedback".

It does not say there will be no support and feedback for the Ning Creators website.

Presumably they will continue to moderate the forums here, and follow the conversations to some extent, and respond occasionally. How that pans out will probably depend on how well the forums continue to attract useful discussion and raise new issues.

Best regards to all the NCs still here!

    P.
