On the heels of our launch of the improved Activity Feed, we're pleased to report that you and your members will soon be able to post content directly to the Activity Feed, in the same way you can already post a Status.
Here's how this will look in a wide column:
And here's how it will look in a skinny column, when you click the "+" button:
Now adding content is incredibly easy — you're just one click away from sharing photos, videos, blog posts, and other content with your friends.
Look for the release to come early next week. A few important details:
- This ability to quickly post content directly to the Activity Feed replaces and enhances the previous, less-prominent Quick Add feature.
- If you disable the ability for your members to publish Status updates in the Activity Feed, your members won’t see these Quick Add options.

FYI: I was not able to change the background color of the pop-up when I click the skinny column's "+" button. I use Design Center and Contempo theme (if that makes a difference - I don't know.
I found this is a problem in other places when using a transparent setting instead of a color. Yet in this case, none of the settings in Design Center control the background of the pop-up.
That's great but I think a real draw back of ning is not being able to share url links to other web content. My members are really active in finding news articles, websites, job posts etc. that they think will interest other members so it's such a shame this can't happen in the status bar. Discussions and groups are great for specific topics but not the general interest items that all members should see. Is there a way of easily sharing web content that I have overlooked?
Aly B, if I'm understanding your question correctly, you can share URL links in the status box of the Latest Activity module. Ning even shortens them for you. Works pretty slick. It's been awhile since you posted, so maybe you've seen this already.

I just saw this in the latest Feature email but I can't find where/how I would activate the Quick Add box on my network. How do I do that? (or is it something only a creator can do? I'm an administrator for our site, but not the creator).
But I didn't disable it (as far as I know)... If I did, how to re-enable it?
Please forgive my questions - I still need directions how to enable the ability for our members to publish Status updates in the Activity Feed... I think I have that clicked on where it needs to be, but not sure - is it under Member controls?
If so, I have that checked but it's not showing up either on the member pages or on the main page.
If it's not there, where do I find it?

To enable/disable status updates:
Dashboard > Settings > Features > Activity Feed (tab) > Status Updates (checkbox)

We wish that Status Updates and Activity were still separately located modules. Our members' Status updates get buried in the main activity feed and on their personal pages by other activity. Members want people to be able to like and comment on Status Updates, but once they are buried in the activity feed we can no longer do that or even check for comments.
If there is a trick other then constantly deleting our other activity please let us know!

if only status mesages are important to them disable all other activirty from showing up
