Hi Folks,
We just released an update to categories in Ning 3 networks. You can now use drag and drop to sort categories so that they appear on your page in any order. Prior to this they were displayed alphabetically. You can also choose to make selecting a category mandatory; your members will need to select one before they can add a piece of content. Here's a look at the new sortable interface and the option to force members to select a category. We also fixed a couple of bugs in this release; one with preview buttons on blog posts not working correctly, and another with the display of dates in non-english languages. Enjoy!

I am still a little confused about this feature. When I click on the category, where am I supposed to end up? I used this feature in two different forums on my site and it kicks me back to the homepage. What am I doing wrong?

I just learned a new trick, thank you! I think I fixed that issue, if you don't mind checking it out... I can't seem to get the exact part of the coding.. maybe it's because I am on an Apple?
Anyway, still I am not seeing what those categories are supposed to do. They don't operate like they do on 2.0.

Thanks so much for all your help! It even cleared up why I couldn't write a title into the discussions. I understand why now, and not even the Ning techs could figure it out.
I guess I never used the categories the same way as other folks did. I would tie them into a tab, which it doesn't seem that I am able to do right now. It was a good way of archiving our discussions (you can see it on my present site, thenewstalkers.com.). If I didn't use Bernard's code, where would these categories show up that would make them usable to the group?
they are usuable in groups as is but the title is how i figured out the problem i tried adding a title to a test post and it kicked me to the main page so i knew something was overlapping

If I go here http://thenewstalkersgroup.ning.com/forum-2/test-of-forum-2 and I click on News & Politics it takes me right back to the homepage and not to the tab named News & Politics. I haven't bothered doing any other tabs until I figure this out. I would think that the articles that have that category, would end up somewhere, like they do on 2.0. If they don't, what are they for?

if you didnt add the code then its an issue in the design studio
the 200px padding below the link ios clickable because of

z-index: 1;

reduce the 200px padding to something like 10px and your good
alternately pick a diferent display style then block
blocks making it include the image as well as the padding and the padding is huge overlapping the menu the catagories menu everything
ib fact u may want to remove all padding and if u need to reposition do it in css with margins instead

I didn't make those adjustments, so that is odd.
I haven't done what you suggested yet, since I think I fixed it by enlarging the area above the tabs.
And the other tabs seem to be working without an issue, so I am not sure if the heading is the issue or not.
BTW, that code you gave, is that for a the name and a tag line. I did the them separately in an art program and uploaded them in there.
debigged partialy uou got some css or something thats making the header way too large and clickable its not the catagory thats bugged its your code i trued adding a discussion and clicking in the title area kicked me to the front page its cause theres a huge area thats layered overtop of everything and clicks back to the main page
gimme 2 min and i shopuld have the code u need to fix it

its the display:block making the padding clickable too
