Site Manager Updates for Ning 3.0 Networks

Today we're excited to announce some updates to your Ning 3.0 networks that will provide more flexibility for scripting and site structure. Here are some details:

Add Members to Pages

You can now add blocks of members to pages. Choose between small or large avatars and the types of members to show. You can choose to show Recently Joined members, Featured Members, Administrators, or members from a specific Member Category. You can have multiple member modules on a page, so it's now easy to, for example, show who your Network Administrators are in addition to showing a set of recently joined or featured members.

Filter Page Permissions by Member Category

Now under "Who can contribute" and "Who can view" settings for individual pages, you can select an individual Member Category. This will provide a lot of flexibility to restrict access to parts of your site to groups of members. Now you can, for example, have a member category for your blogging team and restrict the ability to add new blog posts to them.

Add code to the <head>

Now in the custom code page in your Site Manager, you can specify code to add inside the <head> tag in every page. You can use this to validate external services that need you to add a <meta> tag to your site, or you can add css and javascript directly to the <head>. Be careful running third party javascript here, since it can visibly slow down the speed that your site loads at.

Bugs Fixed!

We also fixed some bugs in this release related to changes to links in the editor not sticking correctly.

Enjoy!

  • HEY, where are the groups and the rest of the settings for NNG 3.0 we were supposed to get for june? It's July now and less then five months left to move before I have to pay for two sites..

    • Hi Cindy, There's no reason you should be paying for two sites. You can take advantage of the Ning 3.0 Sandbox subscription through the time you transition your network.

  • Hi Kos or anyone if you can help. How do I get the advert bar on the right side to show on all the pages? Right now it only shows on the home page

    Thanks you
