  To be honest, I code 2 column Ning sites. But, they are all different. I've always been hesitant to provide a tip because I know it could wreak havoc with inexperienced users. After Ning updates the theming system someday, I will probably offer this as a tip if they don't add it as a built-in feature.

  Hi Willy,
  After all your sweet comments, I hate to say this; unfortunately, I can't answer private or 1-1 on questions. I have to help in public forums, and when time allows. Or, I have to charge for my time. I receive 100s of questions in one form or another, every day.
  
  For this time, LOL - - I can't help much. I've not tried adding the status update to a side bar. And unless I add a tip for that, I wouldn't be able to take the time to write the CSS.
  
  On a 2-column Ning, try to search for this. I don't know where that tip is located.
