Introducing Friend Request Notifications

Today we're pleased to add a Friend Request notifier to Ning 3.0 networks. It sits along side the Messaging icon in the top bar of networks and works in the same way. If members don't have any friend requests, then clicking the icon will take them to their friends page. If they have active requests, then they'll see a badge letting them know.

Clicking on the icon will show a member who the latest requests are from; they can accept or ignore requests directly from the notifier panel, or they can click on View All to be taken to a page to see all their outstanding friend requests.

With this release we've also fixed a problem with Social Channel video playback in Firefox.

  • OH, HOW GREAT A DIFFERENCE this would have been making to the success of my site had you implemented this 2 or 3 years ago!!!!

  • great news

but still so many more important things needing to be done

  • Agree - notifications like that would be a much improved way of finding out about likes, shares, faves and comments etc

    • Notifications for comments, likes and shares would be perfect!

  • Is there a place where you follow a member.  Adding a member as a friend is good, but the thing most people recognize online is to "FOLLOW" and most social communities use this term.

    • You can alter the word "friend" to "follow" or whatever you wish in Language Editor. I have changed many of the words and phrases on my network.  Works like a charm  :)

      • What Jords said. You should also make sure to change every instance where "friend" occurs.

Search "friend" in your language editor, and you will see all of the instances of it on your network. The only ones that need changing are the ones that apply to friend requests, friends list, number of friend requests, and so forth.
