Current status of the Ning Platform is always available on the Ning Status Blog.

Just ran across this site that will let you "Display Ning network Feeds With JavaScript". Videos and Images included in feed display! I did some quick testing. Looks pretty sharp.

Give it a shot and let me know how it works out for you. It even has an option to manipulate the look of the feed with CSS, if you know a bit about CSS. =)

Let me know what you think and be sure to post any results. Would love to see how you used it on your Ning network.

Cheers,
JP

  • this sounds cool! so, you create different feeds for the different content (pics, vids, etc)?

388830-hit_nbsp_urself_head_w_hammer.jpgEDIT oh wow man, this is pretty cool!

  • yeah, i did. I did my featured pics, and i gotta say, it doesn't look bad at all. I'm going to toy around with it and add other codes for videos, blogs, etc. Im thinking if you tell the tool to show 2 of each, could be a nice little featured showcase section. This could even be done as a "recent activity" page as well
    • i tossed this together to see how it would look, click to see.

I just noticed the n/a on each item fed.......also, can you cut off the amount of the content it shows (like on the articles)

  • yeah im gonna toy with it, thanks for the tip this is pretty awesome, generating alot of ideas!
  • its kinda jumbled right now........i just realized, there are no rss feeds for pages we create?
  • this is cool right here, JP.....combine your idea here with this little doodad i came across, VERY powerful tool
  • I already do this using Simple Pie - an open source rss feed aggregator.  But I don't use it in this way - I use it for searching across the whole community (our network is content heavy). See it here. http://www.eflclassroom.com/searchning/

I just installed the files for simple pie on my server. specify the feeds to be aggregated. Search them. Then display on a nice page.

  • Thx JP,

I forgot to put up the files. with these, you won't need to install simple pie directly on your server.

I have some documentation in a text file also. but been awhile since I looked at it. Basically, install everything as is on your own server. Change the feeds in the php file. Change to look/feel with the css or images.

    Might help someone....
