  • Besides all the great suggestions here, I wanted to add one more:
    Twitter is about conversations. If you engage people and your tweets to others are relevant to them, they will respond and likely become members of your network. This is also true of retweeting: make sure to retweet other's tweets on a regular basis, even if it doesn't result in traffic to your network. It makes your Twitter account more relevant and it acknowledges that other people have great things to share (so you tip your hat to them, so to speak, by retweeting them).

    Also I recommend this book: Twitter Marketing for Dummies. In the interest of transparency, I contributed to the book but I don't profit from any additional sales (I only got paid a flat fee for my contribution). I can honestly tell you it's chock full of great tips and recommendations on ways to market your network (product, company, etc.) via Twitter.
