A QR Code

A QR Code (Quick response) allow you to display an URL readable by a mobile phone.   Using Google Maps and Goo.gl URL Shortener, I am going to show you how to inset a QR code into your ning in the correct way.

A Practical Example.

Check out Land Surveyors United Member Map on Google Maps, which generates this LOOOOONG URL:

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=216029752787869705146.000498828f08ca84b822c&t=h&z=2

Now Plug that long URL into Goo.gl URL shorter and we get this:

http://goo.gl/jz6BV

The QR Code Again

We just add .qr to the shorten URL, to get the URL of the QR Code :

To display the QR Code, we just use an img tag :

<img src="http://goo.gl/jz6BV .qr" style="border: 1px solid #000; padding: 5px;" alt="QR code - Google Maps - LSU Member Map" title="QR code - Google Maps - LSU Member Map" />

Plug this into the HTML of a text box and we get this:

Our Result
QR code - Google Maps - LSU Member Map

    Very helpful. Thanks for sharing.
  • Very nice. Leave this tip up. We will be using it.
  • Wow. I didn't realize this little high tech item was so simple.

    I will use this the next time I have flyers printed out!

    • Scott, im totally sold on these things for some reason. I mean, anything i can think of, i can think of a way these things can be used. for instance, say a real estate investor has 3 properties he wants a contractor to go look at and price getting it sell ready. contractor gets to the site, snaps image of qr code and it takes him to a list of things investor needs him to look at, or possibly even a virtual map of the house and you go to each area of house by map guidance, with things pointed out needing to be fixed.........the possibilities of uses of these is endless...
