Ning 3.0: Our Progress So Far

We've released three updates since the Ning 3.0 launch last Monday; the latest of these went out yesterday. These releases have focused on bug fixes, many of which you have reported, and which are tracked on the Known Issues page. Here's a list of some of the issues you've reported as bugs that are already fixed:

  • Profile Page "Add as Friend" button is broken
  • Photo RSS feeds aren't generated successfully
  • Profile questions can't be saved in Firefox
  • Appearance improvements to Blazing Star theme
  • Aloe Theme navigation can't be moved horizontally
  • Updating a Blog Category name removes existing posts in that Category
  • Pending members can't edit their profile page

In the next few weeks, we'll continue to fix bugs and we'll roll out some updates to the Site and Pages manager and the Design Studio. These updates will provide a lot more flexibility for running ads, and they'll make it easy to add effects like rounded corners to your site with a single click.

At the same time, we're starting work on an exciting redesign of the Groups feature and we're continuing initial work on the migration tools that current Network Creators will use to move their members and content over to the new platform in a few months time.

We'll continue to post updates on our progress here on Creators and post specific bugs on the Known Issues page.

  • I just finished full migration and I need two things: a search function in the FORUM and the HTML formatting boxes to be bigger. Why do I want to scroll left and right to read a full sentence? There should also be a way to preview these without having to click all the way out of the Site and Pages to the page we posted on and then having to go back in to Site and Pages to make further adjustments. This is a huge waste of time.

Third - I would like to request again (requested this for the past five years) that we need to be able to schedule message broadcasts to our members. Consistency and uniformity with our messages - this includes timing - is one of the main ways that we maintain a robust community.

  • Can't wait to up-grade to 3.0. very excited for my community daimpressions.com

    Thanks for the update

  • Will members be able to customize their personal pages (graphics/fonts) as with Ning 2.0? This has been the main focus on my site, and my members use it regularly. Will the main page also?

Definitely a big deal for us.

    Dan

    • Hey Dan! Answer: No.

      Big deal for us too.

  • How can l get a new ning 3.0 to test?

    • Hi Star-Dust,

To create a Ning 3 network, you will first want to log in to your Ning.com account and select the "Create A New Network" option (it's an orange button). Follow the steps of the sign up flow (choose a plan, pick a URL, add any content etc.).

After you have created the network, join the Sandbox Group and post your URL here.  Once your URL is posted in that discussion, our team will switch your subscription plan to the "sandbox" plan which gives you a free 6 month trial!

  • Anyone else having this problem.

Unable to change settings under the general settings tab, just nothing happening when I click on save.

    • I just altered my site description and it saved.  I would try clearing your cache.  Hopefully that'll do the trick.

      • I do that on a regular basis Kos and still no luck ????

There is just no response, even when I hover there is nothing at all, the save button is just not responsive for me at all ????
